Grand National first

Nice, sadly I completely forgot about the race after picking her to win this morn! bah! good on 'er though

got to say this years Grand National been one of the best ;) no roads blocked so been able to drive and pick son up from work
well done Rachel

I have been thinking about things like this. Should we really be focussing so much on the first woman/bame/gay person to achieve x/y/z. I understand the reasons behind but do find the constant references quite patronising, should we not be encouraged just to see people as referees/jockeys/drivers without having to label?

She also had an excellent Cheltenham.

I think the horses I backed are still running!!

I think it is worth noting that she's the first woman to win as that is imo a bit of a biggie as there is no doubt a great deal of strength and stamina required so she's shown a woman can indeed compete on equal terms against men and win... as long as we don't make a huge thing about it. I wouldn't want race or sexual preferences to be mentioned at all.

I agree I would love to live in a world where race or sexual preferences was not mentioned. Unfortunately, we are nowhere near that point as yet. (yes, we are better than we used to be, but there is still a long way to go.)

My take on it is she is definitely a good jockey, who happens to be a woman. But neither can we ignore the fact that there still are too few female jockeys.

There's not many sports where women and men compete so I think it is pretty significant. I mean, I'm all about equality but we're never going to see men vs women in boxing!
