weekly Gramps' Photo52 2012 - Week 30 'Contrast' added

Letter straighten it up

Nice low angle on the train track as has already been said

Straight - I'm not worried about the curve at the end and think it fits the theme letter. The very low POV has helped the shot as well.

Letter - Definitely a letter. I was expecting H and S to be either side but I'm assuming this was from the M31 on the side of the ship.

I like straight Gramps, I do have a fondness for these type of shots. The low pov towards a vanishing point works well, the leading line drawing the viewers eye in and through  You have been lucky with the weather too, the clouds are a nice touch.

Letter, as Andy said, not a lot to crit on this, its bang on theme though and gets you up to date. Iain

Hi Gramps

catch up time for me , sorry for slacking :'(

Moody.......WOW....2nd image , sunset boats....totally love it love it love it...very serene feeling , superb soft colors , that needs putting on to canvas , large , & up on the wall....SUPERB IMAGE :clap:

Small...great capture of I think a normally quite shy creature , nicely framed & just love his expression ...well spotted

Letter...well spotted , sharp & bang on theme :)

Straight...great POV on the track & lots of other straight lines in there as well....nice work mister

Thanks for the comments guys and gals, comments taken onboard about the ship's letter :D

Onward and upward ... and still with things nautical we come to 'Contrast' ... all sorts of possibilities but having been at the Bristol Harbourside Festival this weekend it had to be a shot of the harbour, featuring the replica of 'The Matthew'.
The contrast is with the old ship, the old dockside cranes and the new skyline.
There is plenty in the detail, other old ships ... the new HMS Cattistock etc ... so this is my submission for this week.

Hi, Contrast, well spotted and not an easy photograph to do. The sky does distract me but apart from a bit of bracketing/blending nowt you could do.

Cheers.

I really like that. The sky is a bit blown, but doesn't seem to take anything away form the picture. A nice amount of detail in there and very fitting for the theme.

Thanks guys, the sky was disappointing and I could have done with a Lee grad nd but I only had the camera with me due to the crowds.

Tried a colour grad in efex and maybe it improves it?

Old and new was trying to look for something along those lines myself but failed so well done the sky is a better on the 2nd not as blown out

Hits the theme well with the old and new. The Bristol waterside has gone through quite a transformation over the years. I can remember the old dishevelled tobacco warehouses in the '70's which have since been replaced by high-end apartments.

A few of us have gone for old/new this week but they are all so different. I prefer the sky o the 2nd as well and it brought back some good memories as both my parents are from Bristol!

mmm, sorry it doesn't work for me - can't see the theme in it I'm afraid. The blown sky spoils it too, sorry mister gramps :(

Straight - I like your shot of the railway line, nice and low.
Contrast - I get the idea but not too sure it comes across as intended. Certainly old ships etc. but unless you know Bristol the buildings don't say new. Perhaps you can transplant the London skyline with the Shard and Gerkin. lol

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - I like the idea, but find the shot a little awkward.
Letter - Lovely and bang on theme, but as Andy said, a little wonky. Good colour and crop though.
Contrast - Nice shot, though as others said the sky was blown. The edit is an improvement, but kind of looks like it's just been washed blue rather than "restored". I'm actually itching to edit it myself, so might be being overly critical!

Hi Gramps

there's sure a load of Contrasts in the image yet they don't look odd...which is strange to me  Your edited version improves the sky which wasn't bad to start with. Not an easy shot to frame but think you've done well ,love the colors in the old ship..she's a beauty

Straight - good pov which overcomes the slight bend at the end - but then even the bend adds to the view that the line is essentially straight. On theme for me.

Letter - clear portrayal of the theme and good colour rendition. Good subject. Not that it affects the shot but are there dust bunnies in the centre?

Contrast - lots of contrast in the ages and sizes of items but for me probably too many so that the effect is diluted. I prefer the original as altho a little blown, the clouds are white and the sky is blue whereas in the second the clouds look blue on my monitor
