I have the B+W 10 stop ND filter and have just bought the Cokin Grad Filter Pack comprising the Grad ND 2; 4 and 8.
Which other ND filters would you think I may need for seascapes, waterfalls etc. I was thinking of the ND 4 and 8 then combined this would give me 5 stops ie: half of my B+W filter.
Am I thinking logically!!

You can stack filters, but as Craft has said watch for a colour cast. The older Cokin filters used to give a magenta colour to the shot. If you are wanting to do seascapes, especially sunset/sunrises then look at a set of hard edge grad filters.

Thanks Guys, didn't know about the potential colour cast. Craft - the link has been suspended

Hey, Nick, after you posted on my last query, I decided to go with your suggestion of the Cokin Filters which ND ones do you have please.
Thanks
Dave

You might want to change your screw-in 10stopper for a slot-in if planning on using grads with it.

As the 10stopper makes it virtually impossible to compose once attached, how would you know where to place the grad. With the slot-in you place the grad in the outer slots of the filter holder and position it accordingly, then place the 10stopper on the inner slot. Well thats the Lee instruction with the Big Stopper.

I'd personally prefer not to stack more than I have to. More surfaces to keep clean, light possibly reflecting amongst the surfaces. I noticed some ghosting with my Lee and my Hitech 4Stop Grad on some occasions.

Hi Andy - my intention is to use the B+W 10 stop on its own separate from the Cokin set up

Ok Dave...you should be fine then

I went down that road but ultimately still had the issue with the sky being blown and required some PP work afterward. I definately haven't mastered the ten stopper, need to give it more attempts this year!

Andy.

Thanks. Chris I have bought but wanted them anyway so no loss I'll keep an eye on any vignette
Thanks again

Hiya mate, I've got the set of 3, the number printed on the filters is p.121 S/M/L i think its 2, 4, and 6 stop nd grad? I might be mistaken, never had any issues with them though, I've also got a kood circ polariser, a kood 2stop nd and a kood 4stop nd, all fine, also a cheeky bit of grade 8 welding glass for messing about with, now THAT gives a colour cast lol

Hi Nick thanks for the update I'm thinking of getting a 6 and 8 ND filter next not sure if I will stick with Cokin or may try Kood.
Funny you should mention welding glass there is an article in this month Photo magazine on it as a cheap alternative......but beware the green colour cast!!
