Just have to share with the world I have now managed to find a Canon 80-200mm 2.8 L Magic Drainpipe in top condition and it's lovely, easily the sharpest lens I've ever owned. I would highly recommend it for those on a budget (should get a good one for less than £250) and just stepping up from one of the consumer telephoto lenses like the 75-300 etc and looking to get "L" quality glass..It may be old, but it is amazing!
Sure it has no IS (drink less to avoid the shakes
, it weighs a ton (go to the gym), and you may be buggered if it goes wrong (research shows their reliability/build is 1st class) but what a cracking lens! Will put up some photos once I have taken some...
