The second image was the original colour of the photo ...... must have been the style at the time

I prefer the first for your father and the second for your mother. Not sure why but maybe the effect of all that white in the dress.

It's also possible the original print has discoloured with time? I think I prefer the first, too.

...although the second one appears to have more detail in the highlights (flowers, bodice of the dress...)
