Now, I hate compacts... but in the end, I want something reasonably cheap just to have around with me and for when I want to travel light. Given a choice, I would have gone for the g9, but I couldn't possibly have run to that.
Being on a tight budget, I managed to pick up a secondhand Canon Powershot A570IS for £75 and also ended up getting the camera I originally got from Tesco Home, one of which I had had to return as the battery was faulty.
Now, this is Tesco's own make... with a no doubt terrible reputation and I did almost decide not to bother but I was curious as in the end, someone makes these own brand models... Technika. I got the 12 mp pro SH-C350, which has it's own IS, face detection and high ISO setting, and have to say, thus far it has out performed the Canon. The shots have been crystal clear and sharp, even in low light, which I had not expected on a 12mp compact. It cost me £64 and I am just pretty surprised really, as in the end, the Technika hi fi I have aint quite so great, and it is always recommended to go for well known makes in terms of cameras.
