google verification loop

Gmail asked me to verify my recovery email and phone numbers, and I've now got into a loop (three attempts).

After what I assume is the final stage of pasting in the verification code sent to my recovery email, I get asked for my google password again, it then goes through the process again and tells me its emailed a verification code again. So I put in the new verification code and repeat the process .

On the third attempt, I just chose the verify later option, as I'm not actually changing anything, just confirming the recovery email and phone number I already had.

Does anyone know what is going on here.

None too sure what to add......but sometimes copy & paste in my experience sometimes adds a 'space'/blank which is not always obvious?

Thanks, I was indeed copying and pasting, but it didn't reject the verification code, just asked me to move onto the next step

At one point, I pasted an old verification code into the field (One I had already used as I didn't realise a new one was on its way) and it rejected it as being invalid.

It's why I type anything like a verification, rather than pasting.

I have found the same for all sorts of websites - entering a code/phone number/email address etc often needs to be written in rather than copied and pasted.

That's the most likely reason and best thing to try to resolve it.
Not just hidden spaces but the exact way some characters are transmitted might not be 100% standardised.

Thanks, I'll remember that the next time I try, but I'm surprised it didn't simply reject the code rather than prompting me to move onto the next step after I had entered it.
