Google searchbar autocomplete

Can anyone tell me how to stop Google search bar from autocompleting. Suggestions have always appeared under the search bar but recently it's autocompleting inside the box. I have to watch the box at every letter I type otherwise it comes up with all sorts of nonsense. It's driving me mad.

In Chrome go to your settings (top right/three bars) then scroll down to "show advanced settings..."

Under "privacy" untick "use a prediction service....."

Go back to Chrome.
