I have set up a Google Map for members to post their sites for Poppy, Lavender and Sunflower Fields

For members that haven't linked items on google maps before you need to have it selected to Map Mode (Right hand side of screen) and click edit (which is on Left hand side of screen). Click the blue pin and drop it on locations.

Please zoom in as close as possible so not to make it misleading and place date it with year so people know when it was found as they are not always in same place each year. Also try and give as much detail on access and parking for sites.

I understand that some photographer dont like sharing their locations, i have found this out over the last few weeks when i have been told its a secret and they cannot tell you.I think they are just scare others will get a better image than them, well this place is not for you then.

Photography is ment to be fun and sharing help and locations should be free so please follow the link and help share the sites. BUT PLEASE REMEMBER dont damage these place has we will not be allowed to return and i will have to remove the Map

Updates

16/06/2011

We have started to colour code the pins, Red for Poppies, Yellow for Sunflower, Purple for Lavender, Blue for Bluebells and other blue flowers like Flax(Linseed Oil).
This is done when you are adding text, you change the colour there.

How to add a link to Map

Here is a quick tutorial on how to add a link to the Map

I'll try to add a few places when I work out how.

Perhaps we could add bluebells, tulip farms and other beauties too for the next spring.

I find it very annoying. A couple are even trying to charge £100 basically for telling the location. What selfishness!

I am Happy with adding them type of things:thumbs:

In the first post i gave some basic instructions on how to add items, hope it helps

Ive added a couple in Gloucestershire.

Great idea to have this map. I've got a suggestion - you can choose the colour of the pushpins, so why not use red for poppies, purple/blue for lavendar, yellow for sunflowers? Existing pushpins can be easily changed, but as they aren't my entries I have left them as is.

Do you have to be logged in to add locations? I don't see a map or edit option.

You'll need a Google/gmail account and to be logged in.

Just corrected Mayfield Lavender as it was about a mile too far east. Should be about the right time to visit I think, need to check my exif from when I was there last year.

I think that would be a great idea.

I don't know how to do this but will look into it, feel free to change them in advance if you want. I like the idea of the coloured pins

Thanks for that, I had added the google map pin from their website map, just shows can not always be right.

Once in edit mode, click an item on the left to select it on the map. The description box will also be in edit mode. Click the pin icon in the top right and you can change the pin.

I have done the ones on there for now.

Possibly worked out why, if you used the postcode Google drops the last to characters of accuracy unless you use a paid service. It's a pain but I can see why they do it as it's expensive to subscribe to the post code data.

Once you get the pin almost there you can manually correct it.

This is an excellent idea and i will definately add some if i come across any. What is the general rule regarding access to these fields? Do i have to ask for permission from the owner to go in the fields or do you just go in? I would think that most of them would have fences around them.

Thanks Chris, i have just added this info into the first post and will when i get home update the text on the map to refer this.

Ive added a poppy Field on the A61 Just outside of Busby Stoop, nr Thirsk North Yorkshire

Photo Mark White Photography Clicky image in map for his flickr page

handy hint for Android mobile users..

if you save the map on your computer google maps while logged in wih your gmail account you use with your mobile.

then load up the MAPS app, select the layers icon top right corner, press MORE LAYERS, select MY MAPS, select POPPY, LAVENDER & SUNFLOWER FIELDS. and bingo you get all of the pinned locations on the map, then you can navigate to as normal.

:)

Added bluebells at Micheldever.

As for photographers not sharing locations, most of the time if you know the general place the field is in you can normally find it if you have a little drive about. I always geotag my stuff on Flickr so it'd be easy enough to find. Share and share alike I say!

Think I've added bluebells in Malvern - great idea for a site!

Jon Some one had changed the map title to Sunflower Field and changed the description of the map I have change it back to what I thought it was, you may want to check it

Ive added my lavender field location with images now,
