Yes
I have a Canon 7D but hope to go full frame next year. Never really thought I would need a good zoom but seems I do, so apologies for the lack of research before posting this :)

Ideally would like it to spend under or v close to £1000 and to have a good focal range; without the need to take other lenses (currently use a 15-85 for general purpose).

What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

K

PS I perhaps should say i dont do sports photography but more landscape but might get the opportunity to do F1 in the future :)

Just been looking through the Canon website and thought this might be an option. Where can I find a good used one through a trustworthy source?! Never bought a used lens tbh so am slightly wary as to what I need to look out for.

what about the 70-200 f2.8 (non-is)? you can get them new for a smidgen under a grand?

I would have thought a focal length that great would be best with IS?

i'm sure most lenses are 'better' with IS, but I have the 70-200 non IS and whilst on a grim day no doubt IS would be beneficial, most of the stuff i shoot (children) move about so fast that a slow shutter speed would be pointless anyway.

don't get me wrong, if you can get the IS version for a price you can afford i'm sure it's more flexible, but if what your shooting doesn't need IS then the non-IS lens is an excellent alternative.

If you're using it for landscapes, why not go with the f/4 version? Saves a fair bit of weight, and cash if you go non-IS

I have the non-IS used with my 5DMkII - it is excellent.

I also used for Motorsport shots with my 30D and it works well - don;t need the IS.
I have read that the MkII IS version is excellent optically - so you pays your money and takes your choice:thumbs:

nowhere better than here for buying, if looking for a dealer then MPB have a used non is version here http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/used-equipment/used-lenses/used-canon-fit-lenses/canon-ef-70-200mm-f/2.8-l-usm/

depending on what you shoot IS might be something you dont need

Very valid points. I knew there was a reason i came here :)

I just cant help but think that if i didnt get the IS i would regret it in the future. I was thinking of using it for things primarily like landscape but there are other opportunities in where I would use it like at the Goodwood FOS Airshow etc

IF YOU WERE THINKING OF SHOOTING SOMETHING LIKE A 70-200 FOR LANDSCAPES AND HAVE A £1000 TO SPEND THEN I SUGGEST YOU ALSO CONSIDER THE 50MM F/1.8 sorry about the caps, for another £70 you have something a bit wider and also something for shooting in poor light and its the best lens for the money

I already have a 50mm 1.4 :) Used it twice :/
