Hi,

I'm new to the forum here and am looking into buying my first DSLR. After having a play with a couple in Jessops I've pretty much decided on getting a Canon 450D.

Before I make the purchase I was just wondering if this model was due to be replaced soon? I see it was launched in Jan 2008 and I'm sure I read somewhere that Canon are announcing new models in feb?

Should I buy now or hold off a month and see? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

Hi,

The 450d has alreadybeen replaced by the 500d. Check that out before you buy as it has video too

Thanks.

Already have an HD camcorder so not worried about it doing video. So should I bite the bullet?

The 450d is a great camera!! You won't be sorry. I think they may still be doing a cash back deal????

I didn't think the 500D is a direct replacemnt for the 450D?? I seem to remember that Canon said the 450D will continue to be produced...??

I vaguely remember something about them overlapping for a while but that the 450 would stop first, but I might have made that up :S

The best time to buy any new camera is when the wife is in labour.

It worked for me, I told her I needed it to take piccys of the new dude.

450D is a lovely camera, the 500D is not worth it if you have a camcorder and even if you did not have one I would still suggest the 450D + a budget camcorder, too many limitations when using the 500D for video recording, and before ou ask, yes I do have one!

I have a 450D.....never looked or though about another camera since, I think the 500D has some more features, but feature that you wouldnt really use or get major benefit from

Thanks for the advice everyone. Think I'll go ahead and buy. Might look into one of those refurb ones off ebay.

Have a look on Amazon doing a good deal at the moment with £50.00 cash back

Don't forget about the Canon Cashback currently on offer http://www.canon.co.uk/promotions/Index.asp Not sure if an e-bay one qualifies, so I'd make sure if you buy one from there, it is still a decent price compared to a brand new one, with 12months warrenty, after cashback.

The 450D is a good camera and I hope you enjoy your new purchase

Have a look on our forum for sale also there was a good deal on a 450 going over the weekend it may be still there that was reasonable too.

Good luck

only £30 on the 450d

I plummeted for the eBay refurb as even with cashback it was still £100 cheaper, some people steer clear of the US refurbs but I got a 350d that way last year and it was perfect, like new except for it being in a Canon refurbiushed box. its only a 90 day warranty so think about if that scares you, but you cannot buy 2nd hand at that price, CEX price is £395..

you won't go wrong with the 450D, its a great bit of kit for a good price.

I've had a 450D for over a year now and I'm delighted with it. It's a great starter camera since it scales its complexity very well. If you're a beginner you can start off in the automatic modes, where it's no more complex than a compact, and then progress into the other modes (starting, I would suggest, with program and shutter priority modes) as you gain experience.

Personally, I regard video on a stills camera as a gimmick but this is, of course, my totally subjective view.

As for the February release rumours, the latest ones are that Canon is going to announce the 1DS mark 4 and the 60D.
