Does any 1 think this is a good deal for a 2 lenses

both are brand new in the shop 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC & 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC for £180

any HSM or distance scale window? Sounds like you're getting basic lenses there which may be rather soft..... Mind , for that price..........

i cant find a window but for the price and it's only cheap knock around lenses!

id rather pay out the money and get 1 good 1 but i am a student so cant realy afford a good expensive lens

I'm sure you wont go far wrong - see if you can do a quick test first though. Expensive lenses dont make the photo as I'm sure you know ;)

true, i am also buying the canon 50mm 1.4/1.8 len aswell i dont see the point in all these zoom lenses! depends on what you photographing i supose!

The 1.4 is a cracking lens, but the 1.8 is unbelievable for the price!!!

Which camera do you use?

30d

thats why i want some good lenses!!! but i keep rubbing my eyes at the 1.8 !!

The 50 f1.4 is a better lens. For using at weddings, the 50mm f1.8 is a cracker too but it's too unreliable in low light situations - also poor build quality.

Regards the 2 lenses you are looking to buy, as general walk around they should be ok but you may grow out of them and want faster & sharper lenses. Buy what you can afford now and learn with them.

yeah, the more i think about it the more i am twisted to get a more expensive lens justfor the sake of having a GOOD lens. I know sigma lenses are good toa fashion but overall image quality then i think the cannons are on top of the market.

other lenses in question are:

EF35mm f2.0
EF28-105mm f4-5.6 'A'
both canon

Hmm- not sur eyou wouldn't be better off with the 28 - 105 f3.5-4.5......? Unless the 'A' version comes with metal mount (I can't remember) i'd avoid it. i bought the 3.5-4.5 version a year ago from WE - they sent the 4-5.6 version in error and the difference between the 2 is enormous. Darksabre found them somewhere for about £180 I think.....

Happy hunting

Jon

You thought about a sigma 18-200mm its had a few good right ups see DP review???

they are both fairly cheap budget lenses, the 18-50 has its problems but is a fair performer for the price. distortion and build quality are its main problems. i had landscapes taken with this lens on a 300d blown up to 20x30 inch and still look good.

the tamron version of the 55-200 is probably a better lens, cheaper too at about £80, that puts the price for the pair at £160ish

what lenses do you have at the moment?

i have a ef lens off a film camera 28-90 and it's pants realy thats why i am looking for a new 1
