Planning to buy 40D and saw Play.com selling it along with 17-85 lens for £899.99 but then came across the wording "Includes £50 cash back offer". Now I am confused with this. I was under the impression that I would apply for cash backs for both 40d and 17-85 Lens.

Can anyone clear the air around this please?

The deal is you buy the 40D body or the 40D + 17-85 lens. You will get £50 cash-back from those nice folks from Canon when you post your photocopied reciept plus a barcode cut from your box the stuff came in, be it a 40d or 40d + lens. You will get no cash-back on just the lens.......I think:thinking: I got the 400D + lens and got £50 cash-back. Hope that helps.

As far as I know, the cashback on the 40D/17-85 kit is £70. I think Play's wording mean that they've 'claimed the cashback on your behalf already'.

I think the cheapest place is Dixons at the moment - use the code GIMME5 at checkout for a 5% discount on their price of £939. If you have an Egg credit card, you can get 3% cashback too. Then your £70 off after that :thumbs: £793.88 all in!

Is it worth buying the 17-85mm lens kit along with the 40D or is it better off buying the 40D body alone, considering that I have other Canon Lenses too like 24-105mm to name one. :thinking:

What is the difference in price of the body alone compared with the body and lens. Again, when I bought mine I considered just buying the body. The salesman suggested that the lens was a decent bargain when bought as the body + lens kit. I only had an older 35-80mm Canon lens and so opted for the kit with 18-55mm lens.

The exact diff is 203.49 when bought from Dixons with "GIMME5" code which gives 5% off on £399 or higher invoice value.

so to simply put it. [after 5% discount]

body = 688.56
body + lens = 892.05

diff = 203.49

plus 70 quids canon cashback [body + Lens] = 822.05

or

50 quids canon cashback [body only] = 638.56

and the cheapest for the 17-85mm lens from Martins Camera Shop is £324.

So what do U think guys/gals?

Ive been looking at the £40D too for next year and i already have the 17-85mm lens.

if i bought this for £793 (ta Markey H) all id do is sell the brand New 17-85mm (what are that knocking out at £330?? so say £300) that means the 40D cost me £493...

Christ thats tempting.. If i then sold my 350D for a couple of hundred (is that worth it £200??) then is only cost me £300... gulp

Kerso! Kerso! Kerso!

I just got a body only for £650 then £50 Cashback, if that helps at all!

I think you will struggle to get /£350 for the lens even new from anywhere. £200 to £235 is the going price on Ebay at the moment having done some research on selling mine.

(i didnt say £350.. think you typo'ed)

yeah just had a look anywhere from 250-300....

hmmmm

Sorry yes typo. £300. It is still wildly optomistic to get that price for it on the open market. Whichever way you look at it, it is second hand and as such there is no warranty on the item as you are splitting it from the original package.

Under Warranty terms, The whole package has to go back in the event of a problem. So dont look at the new prices going on Ebay or the like, look at completed listings for used and it will be a different story completely. At least thats what Canon UK said to me about my problem with kit late last year with regards to Warranty.

cant believe they expect you to send in your camera too if you had a faulty lens... thats just madness. how do they expect a working photographer to carry on with their work if they send all of it back lol.

people huh!!

Wonder if Kerso would take 12 months 0% interest on purchase credit card as payment option ;):thinking:

Or a good discount on a bulk purchase if we all order one from him from here :D

Has anyone purchased anything like this of DigitalRev ive seen on ebay.

The prices are quite cheaper ie 40D + 17-85mm lens for £685, any import tax they pay also.

?

yes i did, and it was relatively hassle free,

in-fact mine is up for sale exactly as it arrived from DigitalREV, but would be overnoght RMSD :D

thought you had sold yours chilli.

so no difference between getting it from over seas to buying it from Uk (kerso say) but a tad cheaper?
