Hi,

I am going to Oulton Park at the weekend for the BSB, this is my first visit to the circuit so i was wondering do any of you folks know good locations around to catch the actions?

Cheers

the entrance into the last corner is good, as you can pan and capture the car under breaking before the corner.

also check out the exit of knickerbrook chicane, although if its a busy meeting you might not get a spot along the fence behind the gravel trap as it gets busy with both spectators and photogs etc

also check hizzys chicane out. maybe also check out getting on the outside of the circuit for old hall corner. inside is also nice if you get the right spot as the corner is nearly constant radius, although the entrance is blind so focus needs to be quick!

I may be there myself tomorrow, if I feel up to it after a night shift.

Knickerbrook is good for getting close to the track, you'll have access to Clay
hill, Hizzy's chicane all the way down to Britten's.

On race day you can get some very good shots on the mainstraight and grid,
but you need to be on the outside of the track.
Old hall corner is good for riders coming off, your better of on the inside of
the track here (no fences in the way).

Hmm if you're off to oulton park does that mean you will be at Croft on 12/13 th August as well?

I can't make Oulton park but I will be at croft

Many thanks guys, I've printed out the map and marked up all your recommendations, hopefully I'll get some decent shots to post next week.

Braeden: I'm hoping to get to Croft too and I'm definately going to Cadwell Park, the photo opportunities at the mountain are superb.

I should of gone. I go to most events.

Here is my list of favourite shot positions (I know its too late now but I only just found the thread)

Crossing the circuit between races at Lodge Corner and walking down Deer Leap to get along side the start/finish grid. 100mm might be too much on a sensor crop! Your very close to the circuit here. Makes great stationary veiwing of grid assembly and some close pans

Inside of the circuit. Cascades. This is a great place to capture a great fast corner as they just exit Dentons straight

Britten's This location (if used is a great place to have a front on view of drivers coming out of a fastish chicane (again quite close)

Approching Hill top (looking north westwards at the marshalls brick home) drivers are coming down a hill for maximum speed and alot of passing happens here.

Knickerbrook A very busy part of the circuit. Getting time for your shots as they exit Hizzys Chicane for a good swooping pan or some easy to capture long zoomed shots.

Another busy portion of the track where campers will populate is around Warwick Bridge. This is a very fast straight which again is close to the track.

I did 4 track days there last year and the photos of me doing Lodge with the old arch in the background are my favourites

Thanks for all your recommendations, after a late start (my mate couldn't get his arse out of bed) we got there late and the place was packed. We had to meet up with some other firends who were already settled at Cascades so that's where I ended up.

The racing was excellent the photography not so :( I would say 95% of my images are either blurred or out of focus, not only the images of the bikes during the race but also some of the bike stood in the paddock. I'm not quite sure what went wrong, still it was a good day out all in all and I'm definately going back to Oulton next year. I'll be going to Croft in a few weeks and then my favourite Cadwell :) so I'll be able to try again and see where I went wrong.
