I'm lucky enough to have inherited a weeks visit to Nefyn beginning Sept 24.

When I have time to myself, I'd love to get out with the camera, and whilst I'm fairly familiar with the Snowdon/Beddgelert/Porthmadog area, I've never visited the Llyn Peninsula.

What can you recommend?
Thanks. :-)

I knew you couldnt keep yourself away for ever baby

Seriously depends what you intend to do/see/ photograph ,we do have a new member Shirley.r that lives just outside nefyn she might join in .the lleyn itself is a bit bleak ,phwelli is not to bad but I find the whole area expensive in regards to the rest of north wales some nice beaches if you seek them out .
Anglesey is worth a trip or two ,again it depends what your looking for .and you could always meet up with me I you want I will be back from Greece by then

Thanks Jeff.
Bleak actually sounds quite good to me.
I'd rather steer clear of the Phwelli/Porthmadog/Llandudno's.
I am, at heart, a hermit. :)

(And BTW...Shirley's been a member for 7 years....you newbie ;) )

There's plenty of wide open spaces up here especially as the Autumn / winter starts ,I have no idea of your photography genres so it's really hard to advise .wildlife is seasonal and coming into the best part of the year ,again landscapes are better with fewer people around . Plenty of castles dotted about ,a few mountains here and there.some nice hidden nature reserves if you know where to look .

Abersoch is now deserted, thankfully so no need to steer clear (only worth seeing the beach), town will of course still be comparatively bustling. Pop up Garn Fadryn (in my back garden), Mynydd Rhiw, Mynydd Anelog and Uwchmynydd. Nice walk down to Porth Ysgo, there's an interesting 'beach' hidden away to the east of Porth Ysgaden, Porth Oer (whistling sands) always good for a sunset or two, Porth Neigwl too. You can see most of Pen Llŷn in my avatar if you look closely enough!

Looking at your posted picks a visit to Chester zoo looks on the cards ,they even have night time Pokemon hunts there

We were there a couple of weeks ago, camping near beddgelert, only real walk we did was one of the Snowden paths. After that the 5yo refused to do any more walks lol

Thanks very very much chaps!
Alan, I'm furiously writing down place names!
Jeff, Chester zoo is definitely on my list. And yes, I'd like to get back to a little landscape hunting.
Andy, I love Beddgelert... It's often been my base of choice.

Yeah it was lovely to be fair, we camped at the "camping in the forest" place right in front of the river, nice walk into the town, lovely place for some nice quiet walks and a few days of relaxing, which was exactly what we wanted.

The local mechanic was also very helpful when the engine bolts in my car snapped as well lol

And the little'n loved it, so we'll definitely be back sometime, was very proud of her walking up (and down) Snowdon

Quite right too, at 5!!

Depending how long your up here for ,how much travelling you wish to do ,some other options include birding on the limestone pavements on the great orme ,seal watching at Angel bay on the little orme ,high tide Wader watching at rhos on sea literally right in your face .
If you want peace and quiet and spooky places I,m a honorary member of the secret valley reserve Nr mold which is the old mustard gas factory and where we developed the atomic bomb during the war before the yanks actually made it .so I can take you round.
If your going to Chester zoo pick me and the Mrs up on the way we're only half a mile off the A55

Sounds like you could start up your own "Personal tours" business Jeff :)

Hi Ruth, the Lleyn Peninsula is a lovely area for a holiday, far from the madding crowd. There are lots of little beaches and coves to visit, towards the end of the peninsula is Aberdaron village which was the last stopping off place for pilgrimes before they left for Bardsey Island. Continuing to the very tip of the peninsula is Uwchmynedd is where land ends and Bardsey comes into sight, there are daily trips going to Bardsey(weather permitting) Colin Evans gives fantastic trips 07971769895 as he is also the post man for the island. On Bardsey people live and work there farming and the bird observatory, they have a blog, Bardsey Wildlife. If you have a spare day please try and go its a lifetime experience, its beautiful, little cottages, a Chapel which is still used. Uwchmynedd is pure haven, its where I do most of my bird watching. That area is beautiful, at the moment its covered with flowering Heather and Gorse, sheep graze there keeping the grass down for the Choughs which are always there, Yellowhammers, Linnets and Stonechats are there throughout the year. There is a coastal footpath which covers the entire peninsula, most of which follows the cliffs. If you like walking its ideal but travelling by car along the country lane is also stunning.
I'll pop two photos up, Nefyn beach is 2 mins from where I live and the other photo is of Bardsey Island. Hope this is helpful to you. Last year on 28th Sep on the top of Uwchmyndd I got a Dotterel, if you have a good car keep driving when you get to Uwchmyndd go right to the top, you'll see the road when you get there, from there on a clear day you could see the top of Snowdonia.

@Shirleyr thank you very much...I didn't know about being able to go to Bardsey.
Added to the list.
Nefyn itself looks gorgeous. :-)

To the good people I met....thank you for the warm welcome.
To the good people I didn't manage to get to, thank you so much for the invites and advice.
To the member I met by chance at the Snowdon lakes, my thanks for the encouragement to continue to the summit. (I'm now in need of new hips, but it was a good decision!)

Despite the often inclement conditions, I had a lovely break.
I envy you your mountains and your beautiful coast. :-)
