Been on the lookout for a secondhand Canon DSLR set up for a few weeks so first of all checked the internet but up to now no luck ,so decided to try my local photography shop where i found a couple of Canon bodies which are for sale at £35 and £45 with a six month guarantee, now too me that seems very cheap considering on line people are selling them at a much higher price with no guarantee, does the dealer know something,if i buy one is it likely to develop problems or will the picture quality etc be rubbish or is it just a case of taking a chance....

not saying i have the answers, but if you let us know what model the bodies are it would help get you answers from those that do know

Canon EOS 100 Excellent condition £45

Canon EOS 750 Excellent condition £35

Canon EOS 650 Nice condition £29

Cheers for speedy replies.

Not overexpensive though and certainly a cheap way into FF! (D&P to 9x6 and get them scanned to disk...)

Honestly thought they were DSLRs, oh well back to the drawing board.....Cheers

If you want a really cheap and cheerful Canon body to get you started then you need to look for something like a 10D, 20D, 300D or 350D.
All the Canon DSLRs have a D after the number.
That's about the cheapest you'll find, all will be well under £100 for the body only, a used 18-55 IS lens will set you back another £50 and you're away.
My first body was a 350D and it's still pretty respectable even now, though technology has moved on a long way since it came out.
Of the 4 sub £100 bodies, the 20D is probably the pick of the bunch. ;)

CAUTION

Do not get a 10d (not many around anyway) because it will NOT take the abundant EF-S lenses designed for APS-C sensor cameras which is so limiting a factor it makes the 10d a very poor choice if you want to get in to digital.

Whilst that statement about it not being able to take ef-s lenses is true, the 10D was, and still is a damn good camera.

And whilst the 18-55 is probably the cheapest std zoom its probably the only lens a beginner would have to miss out on. Every other EFS lens has a decent 3rd party alternative.

I know it's of no help whatsoever to the OP but a 20D with two lenses (one a 50mm f1.8), two batteries, 2 CF cards and other extras has just been listed in the classifieds for a bargainous £150 delivered!
The perfect budget starter kit if you ask me, not surprised it's already attracting a fair amount of attention.
