Yes
Anyone know a good reputable American company for buying equipment online and having it shipped to a US address?
Have looked at Amazon but equipment I want is only through one of their partners.

Thanks

B&H and Adorama are both very good photographic companies based in New York, they're both very big in to mail order and I'm sure they'd both ship to the UK. I've never used either through mail order but have bought from the Adorama store in NYC and wouldn't hesitate in recomending them. If importing to the UK watch for VAT and import duty though.

+1 for B&H.
Good prices and usually decent service too. I've had stuff shipped over to the UK and always got hit for duty and VAT. For shipping to a USA address I'd guess as long as it's not in NY then you wouldn't get hit for additional tax from B&H. Getting it back into the UK would be your problem of course. But that apart, they're a decent firm.

Many thanks for the recommendation for shopping through Adorama Camera, which is very much appreciated.

Nice of you to stop by and good to see a company who's on the ball as well as on the net :)

Don't forget the OP wants the gear shipped to a US address. Dunno if this would be a problem with a "customer not present" transaction.

We would need to go through a simple verification procedure where we double-check the card-holder's identity. Very straight-forward!

The OP can always contact me for additional information.

What roughly is the total extra on a camera body coming into the UK? Is it about £300 on a £1000 body?

I think (but I may be wrong) that digital cameras don't have duty added but do have vat. Lenses maybe 5% or so duty and then VAT as well. Oh... and you usually get stung by the carrier for £10 - 12 as well :)

If you reckoned on maybe 25% to be added you won't be far off.

I used Berger Brothers for a lens last year. They were very good. It was 7% duty + vat. It still made it worth doing. Although I only did it because their weren't any in Europe and Nikon said it could be 6mths before one would be available.

Kev.
