Been doing a bit of buying and selling again lately and I always pay using PayPal .. at the moment every time you buy something over a tenner you get a entry into there xmas draw , got a your a winner e.mail the other day ,so just bought a fluid tripod head and it’s cost me a whole ten pounds ,well pleased
 
I think PayPal has an unfair bad rep. I will always use it when shopping online if the option is available.
 
I think it suffered when it was too tightly associated with ebay. I use it quite a lot as a buyer, I don't sell much so rarely as a seller.

It only has a bad rep with sellers.

They are getting very greedy. I suspect with the loss of ebay they are trying to recoupe the missing income. We get charged quote a bit to take money. It used to be that if you had to refund within x number of days you got all the fees back, then they decided to give you the fees back less 20p, and now recently you don't get any fees back. Can be quite expensive when a customer places and order for couple of hundred quid and then cancels or returns.

They've also introduced a dispute fee where if a customer raises a dispute and escalates it to a claim you are charged £12. When a dispute is raised you are given x number of days to respond but they also encourage the customer to escalate whenever they like and as soon as that happens we're charged £12. Not very fair is it really, especially when you have a dick head customer who can't wait until business hours to give you an opportunity to reply to them. Lucky we've only had one of these so far and we threatened to shut down Paypal there and then. They quickly reversed the fee.

We are seriously considering dropping Paypal as a payment method because of their greed and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of retailers do the same. I 'm confident we won't loose any business as I think most people are happy using a debit card and nobody I've spoken to has ever abandoned a purchase just because Paypal isn't offered.

Same. Won a whole £25 and bought something and got me another entry in the draw :)

Well £12 if you're on the minimum risk tier. I believe it goes up the more disputes you have and are deemed more of a risk.

What really p***es me off is that Paypal actively push customers down the dispute route were the majority of issues could be dealt with via an email or a phone call to us. I'm all for a dispute process but it should be used as a last resort if the seller isn't playing ball.
 
A couple of things,
1) I know PP was associated with eBay.
I recently bought something from eBay and I noticed that the option is also now to pay directly
using my CC.
My PP account is linked to that card.
So I assume that ebay are "using it" as well.

2) I had a dispute, back in the summer, it was only a tenner,
and may well have let it drop save for the seller telling me to f*** off when I asked for the balance of my order.
It took months, going through a PP dispute, and I had to print off, sign, and scan back an affidavit!
Not the simplest thing in the world, maybe they were hoping I'd drop it ...

edited to add, I did get a full refund on the partial order

and again last time it was £25 and this morning won £50 so treated my self to a olympus EE-1 dot sight after discounts it came to all of £15 posted loving this xmas draw
 
I'm on my third win of £25 so smug as well. Never won a penny out of them before!

It has a pretty bad rep with me as a user, but a worse one as a 'seller'. Not selling my own things, my employer uses them in the checkout process as the credit card processor and their tendency to sometimes not send back all the data their API documentation says that they will send, or to change the structure or content of the data they send without telling people that have existing payment backends first means I'd trust them about as far as I can throw them and would never use them for something I was setting up myself, nor, knowing their practices, will I use them to make payments unless there are no other options.
