Good, old-ish Nikon fit lens suggestions

The Nikon DSLR threads seem to be mainly dead now, so thought this was the best place to ask. I've recently bought a D7500 as a backup/plaything/motorsport kit to keep my mirrorless kit seperate for the business (weddings).

The range of lenses is incredible (and affordable!) but there is so much out there, I'm after suggestions for some relatively affordable second hand glass (preferably well under £400) for anything from ultra wide to macro. It's a DX camera but full frame glass is fine too.

Yesterday I found a Sigma 100-300mm f4 for £180 which is on its way to me, so that's the motorsport box ticked, I used to use that lens years ago and loved it, thrilled with the price this time around!

After a walkaround/travel zoom, a fast normal prime, macro lens and an ultra-wide. I know for example the Sigma 10-20mm was the go-to affordable ultra-wide, is that still the case (it's cheap!) or are there better, affordable alternatives?

Wide zoom, look at the Nikon 17-35 2.8 and 20-35 2.8. Both lovely lenses. Macro - Nikon 60 or 105 2.8 AF-D. You're probably best asking in this thread since it's in full swing and posted to help with this very question:

There is a tokina 11-16/2.8 in sales on this forum. I had one of these on Sony A-mount back in the days and it's a really great UWA lens.

Thanks, I did see that thread title but to be honest I didn't think these would be classed as 'vintage' as most stuff I've looked at that is still incredibly affordable is from around the 2010 ballpark. Stuff in that odd middle ground that late 1990s cars find themselves in vs classics from the 60s/70s/80s!

UWA, Sigma 10-20.
Macro, Tamron 90 or Sigma 105.
Fast "standard" prime, 35mm - take your pick.

Thanks, those are pretty much the ones I had identified, so it's good to know I'm looking at the right stuff.

Ahh. I think what I meant by "vintage" when I started that thread was any of the older AF-D lenses and before, so lenses from the last millennium really. Talking of which, a great general zoom is the NIKON AF-S 28-70 mm f/2.8D. Tack sharp pro lens and can be purchased very reasonably these days.

I've purchased:

Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC = £110
Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 = £90
Sigma 100-300mm f4 = £180
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 = £150

Not bad going, pretty much everything I would ever want to shoot covered in just over £500 (and all f4 or faster up to 300mm!)

If you can afford a little more then I'd look at the 16-80 for walkaround duty (24-120 equivalent). Also either the 35 f1.8 for your 'fast' standard lens or the Sigma 30 f1.4 you already thought of.

Another vote for the 16-80 for a dx walkaround.
I've been a Nikon shooter since the late eighties and this was one of the best that I owned. I only sold it to fund my foray into Nikon mirrorless.

I have the Tamron 17-50 2.8 as a walk around zoom for my D500.

Probably one of the cheapest, most underrated lens I know of. Excellent optics in my experience.

You have got done other bargain be there- enjoy.

AF is pretty noisy but less than £100 for a sharp 2.8 standard zoom, crazy!
