It is a good camera to practice with but not something that is going to pay your rent I am afraid.

There are a few on an auction site going quite cheaply. For example there is one with 2 lenses and a flash for £39.99

Maybe the lenses you have are better though so you can check those out.

I'd be chuffed with finding that :-) I had an ae-1 program about 20 year ago

Its always a good find when you get things for nothing...The Canon AV1 was a great little camera in its day...yours looks like its in really nice condition too......

For use: nice find

...but as others say, not worth a huge amount.

Call in a camera shop or just Boots, grab some film and enjoy it.

oh yeh i wasnt really intrested in cash just wanted to kno if the camera was a good one.. Thanks for the Replies

Was it not yours originally then? I never find anything nice in my shed!

There was a huge wasp in my garage at the weekend. I can't really compete in this thread...

Anyway...if you don't want the kit you could offer it to the disabled photographers society or to some other charity or maybe to a school or college. Or you could just enjoy it yourself.

the Cokin filters are as good today as they were then

pop them up for sale here if you like - though you have to log up a certain number of posts before you can sell

Nahh its was'nt mine but then its the family house spoke to my dad today and its his, he just not used it in years he totally forgot about it. Could i use the Cokin Filters in my Sony Alpha? what would i need to buy to use them...

The square Cokin filters will work fine on the Alpha.
Basically the system works with 3 components
1) The Filter (s)
2) A Holder for the filter(s)
3) An Adaptor ring - this screws into the filter thread on your lens and connects to the holder.

So you need an adaptor ring for each size of lens filter thread that you want to use it with.
You then attach the the adaptor + holder to your lens, and slot in the filter(s) you want to use.

Cokin filters come in a few different standard sizes, if it's one of the 'small' ones (A?) then it may well cause vignetting on wider angle lenses.

Excellent find, the AV-1 was a superb aperture priority camera, I had the A-1 and AE-1 in it's family, great stuff!

My first ever camera was an AV-1 back in 1980. I couldn't stretch to the A-1 (I was only 16!), but it was certainly very capable. :)

Hey...nice bit of kit...will - or should - work as well as it did back then...

Put a few rolls of film through it and treat yourself to some 'real' photography...lol
