can anyone recommend some good books on fashion photography. its a field of photography i know very little/zero about and fancy learning about it, its always interested me. i have looked at the book "Unseen Vouge" online, what books inspire you?

Tim Walker's 'Pictures' is a beautiful book!
It contains his work, behind the scenes, his initial ideas & basically just takes you
through his working process. His work is published in Vogue a couple of times every year.
 
I've just bought Light & Shoot: 50 Fashion Photos

It's a cracking book. Typically one page has the photo whilst the facing page has a description of the photo and photographer, 2 lighting diagrams (2d,3d) and a box showing how to get a similar style.

It covers studio light, natural light, female, male and black and white.

Well worth the £12. I know I'll keep referring back to it.

Also look to buy the likes of Dazed and Confused, iD, Arena Homme and other fashion and style magazines as they will keep you up to date with contemporary styles.
 
I've found myself looking more and more at a variety of photographers work online. Big name fashion guys have some very good websites. Heaven help me I've even started buying Vogue, although I always make a point of saying "it's for my girlfriend" ;)

Though that "light and shoot" book sounds brilliant, always need a diagram I do! :D

They're my favourite and one's I can personally recommend.

One's I've owned and don't like, Bruce Smith, and Eliot Seagals books on "how to shoot fashion" styley. SOME decent information, but nothing you couldn't get from a friendly chat with a fashion photographer.
 
Much like @jimbobtog & @E17phil mentioned,
flicking thru magazines is an amazing way to get inspiration. They often have interviews with photographers or write tips. You can find online magazines as well as published. I've found that occasionally the underground magazines have more information. Best wishes.

'Take Ivy' is great if you are interested in menswear. I can see it informing what I wear as well as how I shoot
