Hi all, I'm Adam.

Recently started shooting an old Sony A200, (10.2megapixels of pure power!:LOL: ) didn't really want to invest in a hobby which I'd never really tried before.
Luckily though, I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute and I'm ready to upgrade, which is where I got a bit stuck. There is soooo much choice it's unbelievable, but where better to start my quest for understanding than a good ol' forum.

I'd love to start with getting a better idea why people choose the brands they shoot with, I've not managed to find any threads using the search if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be brilliant otherwise I suppose that will be my first main discussion thread :)

Look forward to hearing from you all and becoming a part of the community.

Cheers,
Adam.

Hi Adam, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums."Enjoy".

Hi Adam and welcome.

I have 3 cameras ATM - the Canon 1Ds MkII, a Canon 1D MKIIN and a 40D, the last 2 acquired in the last 4 months.

I started years ago with the Canon 350D and stayed with Canon, simply because it becomes more expensive to change the more gear you get.

The 3 cameras I have give me FF, a 1.3 crop and a 1.6 crop with 16MP, 8MP and 10MP respectively.

It might seem odd to go backwards as it were in terms of pixels but I don't think that the pixel count makes a lot of difference - it's the lens that counts.

Which is why I now have 2 L glass lenses and the 50mm f1.8 STM - all of which are EF lenses and will fit any crop, unlike the EF-S lenses which will only fit the 1.6 crop Canon cameras.

With these lenses and also a 1.4 Kenko extender the only thing which limits my photography is mainly me :)

I also have some flashes etc.

The only thing I am really eyeing ATM is the Canon 5D Mk IV - but that will have to wait a couple of years at least until the price, hopefully drops.

I hope this helps a bit.

Hi Adam :welcome:

Generally this is why, was with myself as well - not so much the cost of changing manufacturers years ago as I didn't have a lot of gear, more I was happy with the camera, liked and was used to the menu system / layout of the buttons, how the camera felt etc...Nowadays, the cost would become an issue...
