I must be mad attempting this with my knowledge of these things, but, I am going to use my other domain name to build another site to run alongside my main one.
Who is recommended for ease of use for a web numpty like myself?

Glyn

well i own a domain that is a local town/wedding photographer.com so I am looking at ways to use this on an easy to build/use site that I can target the local town to get it found on search engines for that town, but also that people know that I have the other site in my name & that the 2 are the same company/person. It hopefully would give a double pronged approach for the search engines. Hope that makes sense?

To the best of my knowledge, it makes no sense.

You can't duplicate content, because Google will penalise you. Having 2 separate identities makes little sense unless they're 2 separate businesses. The best thing to do with the domain name from what I've read is to put a permanent redirect on it (that or put up a flash slideshow with a link direct to your current site.

In your shoes, I'd spend the money on a Pro Photo wordpress template (to replace your current site), not cheap but they make everything else simple. There may be other premium templates that'd do the job as well, but the nature of feedback and testing means that for me I'd rather go to the one place I know will work.

My first thought was a redirect to my main site, but I was advised against this as was told it would serve little to no use. Perhaps that advise was wrong then & that still is my best way to go:shrug:

So next step how do you do a redirect?

The advice was right I'm afraid.

The re-direct will be little use, a second different site would be confusing for customers and duplicate content will hurt your rankings.

(basically - the address is worth very little to you), It's highest value is probably either in selling it, or just by having it so that no-one else can have it.

It used to be considered that a website URL was worth a lot in SEO terms, but nowadays the pagetitles and other SEO tweaks seem to be worth a lot more.

Oh what a nightmare, lets go back to the days of yellow pages & newspapers, i understood that.:D

Honest it's not complicated. But like everything else, you need to set off in the right direction. Unfortunately I think you set off in 2 different directions, one with the web address, and one in hiring someone to build you a 'great looking website'.

Lots of web developers have very little knowledge of SEO. I worked with a guy who claimed to have studied web design at college, and when I asked him about SEO his eyes glazed over as if I'd asked him in Cantonese:cuckoo:.

I'm really sorry but it's like you read the Amazon reviews to choose 'studio lighting' and Which to buy a camera, and now you don't understand why you can't get a decent studio shot. As a photographer you'd say 'Why the f*** would anyone do that:thinking:
