Anyone knows of any restrictions while visiting the Taj with camera gear? Read some where on the net that there's a lot of security check while visiting the Taj and taking a DSLR with some lenses is not worth the hassle.

Any advice/suggestions are most welcome from someone who may have visited the Taj in mot so distant past.

I understand that your biggest challenge at the Taj will be to get images of it without hundreds of people in the image. They are everywhere! One guy said he did find a vantage point eventually where he could make photos with few people in it. He said to go into the grounds as soon as the gates open, to go left immediately after entering the gate, and you will find it about 50/100 yards onwards. Roughly where the red circle is.

Have fun!

We went in Feb - unfortunately a grey day! W.Smith is right its busy and there are swarms of 'official' photographers keen to snap you and yours.

The most popular 'bit' is the 'Lady Di' seat.

No photos allowed inside the tomb itself.

There is a security check on entering but my gear seemed to escape any heavy scrutiny (all in a Lowepro Minitrekker)

I found a space to the right just by the flower beds that was a good vantage point

The two spaces either side of the tomb were pretty empty and good vantage points and of course at the back of the taj is the Yamuna river - worth a look.

Its a great place for candids as well given the numbers

I'll post a few later to illustrate what I mean

There's a couple in this thread India
