Hello

Going to Cadwell Park on 21 April for the Wolds Trophy.
This will be the first time I have been to a track event. My only previous motorsports been 1 rally and the bike racing on mablethorpe beach last december.

Current kit is nikon d3200 with the kit lens plus a nikon 55 - 300 f4.5 (not likely to be added to before the event)

Any tips on how to get the best out of the day welcome
(also planning on the BSB in august and maybe hiring a f2.8 for that)

Cheers
Paul

Cadwell is a great circuit to shoot at. the chance for lots of different angles, and the lack of catch fencing is another plus.
depending on the event, you should have chance to walk around the pits, and get some interesting shots of the cars being worked on.
As for where to shoot from, there is lots of scope for panning on the home straight, you can get some decent shots shooting up the mountain, and personally I like shooting in the tree lined area after mountain.
I've only ever taken 200mm max on full frame, but that provides enough reach for most stuff.
Don't forget that it's not all about taking shots, and especially as its your first track event, make sure you enjoy the experience. it can be a very addictive pastime!!
Looks like there will be a great array of cars on show, if it is sunny, the light filtering through the trees in the afternoon can make for some interesting shot.
As always, go for AI Servo, and keep around 1/320 for head on stuff, or anything between 1/125 and 1/8 for panning.....depending on how good your technique is.
Most of all.....ENJOY!

+1 on this but for panning I would use 1/200th and go below when start getting used to pans. I dont think you'll want to shoot below as you will probabley delete quite a few, I still do now and ive been doing motorsport photography for two years.

Thanks for the advice, really looking forward to this. Got a few more motorsport days planned work etc permitting

Thanks for all the advice matty2 and d-pearce92 not had chance to post since going due to working.
Had an amazing day got some shots I am pleased with. Spent some time on the mountain and also on the start finish straight.
Matty you were right about it been addictive already looking forward to my next day out at the races.

Thanks again
(will post some pics in the critique section)
