Yes
To get a Dataco license they stipulate that photographers should have 15 images published in the local press and paid for at the going rate. I just wondered what people had found the going rate was for images of a non league team??? My personal (and very limited!) experience so far from speaking to local papers seems to be roughly £0.00…give or take 1p.

As always, any guidance from those in the know, would be greatly appreciated! :)

Well for starters you have the rates from the Non League Paper. After that its a question of phoning around and try to get interest from other sources such as away teams local papers. This is always hard work and often the answer will be "sorry no budget". Best I've ever done is about £40 but one sale on top of the commissioned Non League paper fee makes a fairly good afternoon and would give you two uses towards your DataCo licence.

AFAIK DataCo dont accept NLP or LP towards your licence... Or is that just Prem licence? need checking for sure.

Why wouldn't they accept NLP sales? I can understand LP as you need a licence to shoot them anyway. Possibly for Prem as its the next step from your league licence. I haven't looked this up but I do know of people who have "dropped" to non league and worked for NLP to get their licence, unless this has changed very recently.

as i understand the requirements are [for a football league licence] 15 pic with invoice and more importantly remttance notes of pic taken in the last 12 month which are published in local papers daily or weekly [non-league paper are allowed or were when i was working towards mine]. pics from football league games not allowed as you are not allowed in unless you already have a dataCo licence. catch 22
but all this is old hat and has been covered many times before.
check dataCo web site or speck to them.
prem licence is 30 pics in national sunday or dailys + 5 million pl insurance

should also add that each remittance needs to have a copy of the picture as well.

Thanks for that. I've just ha a couple of photos published in the NLP for the first time (one on the front page!) and i'd like them to count towards getting my license. Do the NLP automatically include a copy of the photos with the payment remittance or do I provide copies when I submit a license application?

Thanks

Dave

No so make your own copies and when submitted ensure you get your name credited.

Are you David Horn then?

I dont know.. why dont they accept womens football action pics either?

Like I say best to check thats all.. it could be like i say the prem licence.. I never did any NLP when i got mine but do recall being told.. thus chinese whispers and might be rubbish but I do always feel best to check :)

Because the player has to understand the off-side rule for it to count

Andy Gray thought that was amusing once as well..............

I have had a few from Braintree published in the East Anglian Daily Times recently and they pay £15 per picture.

Not after he got the sack

That's what whole light hearted quip was about. Of course it's absurd.

Not wanting to distract from the topic, but Andy Gray was truly offensive. You could hear it in his tone.

There is a big difference between that and me & the missus having a joke.

And to be perfectly honest I don't like football that much. i.e. how the players get away with falling down like they are pole-axed & how they run to the ref to complain & he does sod all.

The FA are pathetic.

The FA have a difficult job and no I am not defending them but regarding the players falling down then yes the game is riddled with cheating but the first responsability is with the players themselves and secondly with the club for allowing them to do it!. It has become more apparent with the influx of overseas playes but dont lets kid ourselves that our game was clean before! TV does highlight it and I think those caught should be subject to punishment of some sort. Fining them a weeks wages is nothing to a premiership player but a 2+ game ban would affect the team and perhaps encourage the club to try and cut it out.

Exactly one of the reasons i hate football with a passion, how on earth anyone can watch a so called professional game played by a large majority of cheats is beyond me and one of the reasons i recently turned down working for an agency covering Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield in the Champiuonship, i simply couldn't put my best into covering a sport i have no interest in what so ever, the Sunday morning guys with hangovers are far more professional.

One of the problems is that it then goes down to kids football.

I see it at my son's u14 games !!!

Must admit my 2 lads now 19 and 16 both played at all age levels and i never saw a single diving/cheating incident until my youngest went for trials at Huddersfield Town as a goalkeeper a couple of years ago, he came back as the best U17 keeper (he was only 14) but was told he needed to grow, he was small even for 14, hes now shot up but lost interest after Town rejected him, point being when he came back from a 2 week camp with Town he all of a sudden knew how to cheat and "play dead" even when he didt get touched during a challenge

so if you want to get your football league licence you have to sell 15 photos,

can they be from local papers or do they have to be certain newspapers,
one more question,
i phone newspapers asking if they want photos from games and they all say NO DON'T HAVE MONEY
so how do you guys sell photos

A player in my son's team recently went for 6 weeks to the Millwall U14s Academy. He will be getting a contract at the end of this season.

He has come back a different player. Where he was a strong but placid full back - he is now a strong but "angry" full back..

That'll be the "Millwall" influence then! Is it right the players have to spend the first few weeks on the terracing at the New Den to toughen them up?:lol::lol:

For non league games I only attend for the NLP otherwise I go to a league game. Once the NLP contact me I contact the away teams area newspapers and mostly they say no. Any that say yes is pure bonus on top of my fee from the NLP. Have you tried covering any games on spec for the NLP? they dont pay much but if your looking for sales to achieve your DataCo licence then its another option.

Hi mate, unfortunatly it's the "win at all costs" mentality the junior coach's at professional clubs instill in the youngsters

It's terrible Gary, I think it is changing the face of sport....Where kids used to play because they loved it, now it's all money driven....Unfortunately Very Sad but also very true
