Hi.
I have a 2 day event on tonight and tomorrow.
Canon 5dmk3 and 24-70.
My GODDOX flash been sound. Had it 2 years. Not abused or used much.
Tonight got to event and it working fine.
Then I noticed a popping sound on the last few flash pops. Coming from the bulb area.
Never heard it. Sounded weird.
Now it speak to my caners. As when I change aperture it does on flash. But no pop.
There’s a very very slight attempt by flash to pop but it’s so faint. But nothing.
I’ve managed to get by at 3200iso and slower shutter but not ideal.
Anyone have an idea?

Hi and welcome to TP

Reading your post makes me think that either or both the flash lamp itself has failed & the primary capacitor.....if it is indeed either one of both I surmise it is likely to be beyond economic repair, subject to what Godex might say when you ask for their assessment?

When I press the flash button (the one with lightening on) there is a very faint pop of flash. So small you’d only see it if you look close.
Hmmm bought this in 2020.
Not used all that much. Maybe 20 shoots over those years.
Will Godox honor warranty ?? Who do you even call. Are they not a Chinese company?

I’ve found Godox customer service emails. Have emailed 2. I hope they get back to me. Generally pleased with Godox. I did not expect this tonight. Half way into an event with another event in 2 days. Screwed.

I do not own Godex so have no idea what their customer service would be like....fingers crossed?

Is that is your only flashgun and if you are shooting professionally, don't you have a backup?

That is my only flash yes. Suppose a good idea is to have 2 for sure.
Maybe moving forward I shall look to get an extra flash.
I was hoping someone might have experienced this issue and knew a solution.

FWIW and purely my opinion
If shooting as a paid job then 'good idea' would not cut it to the clients....backup kit is a CODB and an absolute necessity as your circumstances illustrate.
If just as hobby photographer then purely optional i.e. if you have a failure without a backup 'so be it'.
NB if on the other hand it was for someone you committed to providing the images taken, even though not paid then frankly, a kit failure without backup is an "own goal".

I look forward to learning what other more knowledgeable TPers have to contribute.

The problem is quite simple IMO.

The Murphy's Law idiom always applies; 'Anything that can go wrong will go wrong'. :headbang:

If you had a back-up, you would be alright and as has been said, to not have backup kit when you're charging for your services is just asking for trouble - as well as being completely unprofessional.

Even Boy Scouts know to always 'Be Prepared'.

Unless the item is under guarantee, just throw it in the bin, put it down to experience and then go and buy two more. If you want to offer a professional service, make sure you have at least two of everything.

I'm sorry I can't be more supportive . . . :sorry:

I managed to borrow a Canon 580ex2 for todays event.
It felt like it gave different rehire. Cleaner more balanced light and minus any hues.
Godox are known to have issues whej using flash or flash triggers. They create a yellow hue. Todays images look very good and overall more consistent. The Godox delivered don’t get me wrong. But something felt different with this canon.
Anyone had this??

Nope. I've had Canon flashes before changing to Godox. Maybe that was a sign that the bulb in yours was faulty?
