Im off to Scotland for a weekend and staying at The Richmond Hotel in Tomintoul. I know its near the Cairngorms, is there anywhere else i should be looking mainly for landscapes fairly close by?

Hi Eddie, you've picked a great area. The Braes of Glenlivet are nearby nice walk towards Scalen. The Lecht ski range is good for mountain landscapes. The beech at Lossiemouth is great for seascapes.

I've stayed at that hotel although it was called the Richmond Arms.

I'm sure you will find plenty of landscape options nearby.

Thanks for that Mark, will check them out, and welcome to TP :)

A mate of mine has bought it and moves up there at the end of this month so a few of us are going up for a weekend. Hopefully get some good photos while there :)

If i didn't already have the Tamron you have i would have took you up on that offer.

I live in Inverness and I'm always around this area. Have a look on my flickr stream for some location ideas. Pictures arent great but should give you an idea.

Cheers

Looks like some cracking locations, after seeing yours i don't think i can do them justice but will give it a go.

Aviemore is surrounded by lochs (Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilean, Loch Pityoulish) which all have the Cairngorm mountains as a backdrop. Again, look at my Flickr for ideas of the lochs
