Glasses vs. Contact Lenses

Yes
I remember when I first got my contact lenses about 5 years ago, it was fantastic. I could do all the contact sports that I wanted without having to worry about blinding myself with shards of glass from my spectacles. But the more I wear them the more I think that perhaps I should cut back on the time I spend wearing contacts and use glasses instead, such as when sitting at home. But one thing I've noticed is that if you look straight through the glasses everything is sharp and in focus, but looking to the side things get out of focus and blurry.

Is that something to do with the curvature of the lens? Is this the same sort of effect that you get with camera lenses in that things in the center appear a lot sharper than details on the edges of the frame?

Maybe I need to get my eyes checked again.

I'd certainly get your eyes checked again, depending on the last time they were done. If it was 5 years ago when you switched to contacts, then get yourself booked in!

I wear glasses, I tried contacts, but I just didn't look right having worn glasses most of my life

I only suit glasses when I've got a beard. I'll get myself booked in for a checkup.

I have had contacts in the past and I am thinking about trying one day disposeables. However, my son told me not too as I have a 'glasses face'!!

Steve.

I tried the 1 day disposables for a month...and got totally ****ed off with it every morning! And trying to take them out after you've been up the pub and had a skinful is just plain irritating.

Went over to 1 day disposables rather than specs a few years ago and now rarely wear specs. Means I can wear decent, strong sunglasses when necessary and don't need to worry about scratching specs when using a camera. Also lets me see properly when snorkelling.

I used to wear contact lenses every day TBH. I got some more last week, after several years of not wearing any.

You should probably get your eyes checked again.

When I look to the sides it goes blurry a little more than if I look ahead, when my astigmatism has changed. I'm stupidly sensitive though, if my prescription changed by 1/4 of a unit (sometimes an eighth) I start getting headaches.

That's no different to putting normal contacts in each morning. I got totaly ****ed off with it too!

My intention was to buy a month's supply but just use them occasionally, not every day.

I use the extended wear contacts. You leave them in for 30 days then have a weekend of glasses then bung another pair in. :D

I've been using them for approx 10 years & they are excellent

They stay in for 30 days? Even when you're sleeping?

I'd love to try those but always too chicken. I'm not sure if they do toric ones though. There's some new monthly disposable lenses (only been out a few weeks aparently) they're more sturdy in your fingers so they don't flip inside out, but they're made with silicone, so they let more air through and don't dry out as fast. I can't feel them in my eyes most of the time - yesterday I was convinced that it wasn't in except for the change in vision, lol.

i tried contacts but couldnt get them to stay in (they fell out when i was driving, not good when your eye sight is as bad as mine!) so im a glasses man, like chris said ive worn glasses since i was about 10 and i look daft without my gigs on!
