Girl killed in Wii Remote mix up

Very sad, the stepdad should be charged but as its the USA and anyone can have a licensed gun it was an accident waiting to happen, and the stepdad will get away with it as usual............was the gun loaded to shoot the intruder so he could get away with manslaughter whilst defending his home or something......the mind boggles

From another account of the story (The Telegraph)

Tina Ann Cronberger, the child's mother, was sitting only a few feet away using a computer when the accident happened

Parenting at it's best

so the step dad gets his gun out ,puts it on the coffee table ,then goes ( without gun ) to look for prowler ? yeh right. not so much an accident as a negligent, Pete

No, he gets gun, loads it, goes looking for prowler with the gun, doesn't find prowler, leaves loaded gun on table in room with 3-year old, goes to bed...

Americans...I feel sorry for the kid, but with genes like that, what chance did she have really...?

Its bl**** America, crazy. Absolute stupid parents. What noones asking, why the hell is a 3 year old girl playing games that require such violence. :( :'(

I'm not sure what gun games are out on the wii, but I imagine some are not really violent....many games use triggers wii play being one where you shoot balloons and cans.

I just couldn't imagine leaving a gun out for my son to even get close too, pretty scary really.

Thats the wii gun next to real gun, bet you find it hard to tell them apart.

Tragic story when I read it the other day. Makes me wonder - could have had the safety on at least to be safe.
As for the toy vs the real, I don't know why they have to make it look real, you can even get a crossbow for the wiimote, and that looks like a real one with the bowstring etc. and to quote:

"...you can add more realism to the Wii shooting games. Beautifully designed, the shape like really Crossbow!"

More realism?! As if the bowstring is really needed for the whole gameplay feel. I fear we won't hear the last of these incidents...

Child death by gun isn't an uncommon occurrence in the US, 100s of young children are killed by guns every year

This is from wikipedia, frightening if accurate

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that, on average, one child every three days died in accidental incidents in the United States from 2000 to 2005

I know what you're meaning. Its just, my parents don't hold with computer gamers/xbox/wii etc not had one in all my 18 yrs, and hardly ever play any, so thats probably why I feel a little stronger on this.. Don't get me wrong, they are great fun, I just don't think such a young girl should be playing games like this with controllers like that..:shake:

To quote Charlton Heston "Out of my cold dead hand!", how about out of hers?
