GIMP - What do I do?

Ive only ever used Picasa 3 for doing some very basic editing/cropping/straightening etc.

But I download GIMP 2 and I just cant figure it out at all if Im honest!

How do you work it. I keep thinking I should have a play with some of my photos but Im just getting confused with this.

My Bro has a copy of Photoshop which he says I can have when I return to the UK in 6 weeks, is that easier to use? should I just wait until Im back before I have a play with editting some of my shots?

Is your brother offering you Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, which is a cut down version of the full package? Photoshop is pretty much the professional gold standard, but is very expensive (if you have to buy it) and a lot of people reckon it's overkill for amateur work. Photoshop Elements is excellent, far cheaper, and much easier to learn. It also serves as a good introduction to the full version.

Photoshop and GIMP both have steep learning curves, and I think it's a bit of a toss up which is more difficult! GIMP is free, but there's a lot more easily accessible support for Photoshop online and in magazines etc.
 
Photoshop is easier to use but gimp can do some amazing stuff! Just play with it. It is quirky but worth trying seeing as it's free.
