So did any one see the this Meteor tonight over the north west? it was incredible! massive fireball that flew across the sky must of lasted 8 seconds or so. Best thing ive ever seen!
I was so gutted i was working and did not have my camera on me :(

Yeah my missus and daughter jumped up and ran to the window, i missed the b****r :( im in the northeast btw.

I'd just got onto the beach for take 2 of photos of the Global Rainbow in Whitley Bay and saw it. It looked like it was only 1/2 mile or so inland but I'm guessing it was more as it also only looked about 1 mile up it was that big! I was with my Dad and we did the whole 'Is it a lantern? Is it a flare? Is it something crashing? Ohh is it going to hit us?! Ohhhhh it's a massive fireball - look at the flames!' thing. It certainly was HUGE!
As we'd just arrived I didn't have my camera out yet and I was too busy gawping to think about getting it out of my bag and to remember it had video. D'oh! I'd make a rubbish press photographer!

Has anyone been attacked by giant, angry plants yet?

Cool so it could be seen from quite away away then.

Giant is a bit of an exaggeration :D
lol no it as. must of been about half the size of a chinook, considering the small size of normall shooting stars that don't make the news..:p

Well not yet although i did see 8 army trucks driving past earlier with troops in hazmat suits on......

Yes, I saw it. I was around Junction 30 of the M1 driving North. The wife and i saw it cross our path, high up...it WAS large - a lot bigger than, say, a jumbo flying high. The fire trail was clear, too.

First time I have seen anything like it. Shame I was driving, I had my camera with me...

 So no-one took any images of it then.... What was we, all asleep or something  :p

Major scoop missed there!
I've yet to see a half decent picture of it so if anyone has one they could clean up in the media.

Nope. Totally missed it. Have curtains drawn so no chance of seeing anything after dark!

This must have been what my saw, she was outside having a sneaky ciggie, she came inside and told me to grab my camera, she thought it was a lantern. When I got outside nothing was there. It was a north westerly direction, must have been between 8 and 9ish?

I saw it at 9.40pm...I know because I was just passing my parents house as I drove down the motorway...I checked the time because we sometimes ring them and they stand on the bridge and wave to the kids as we pass...but it was too late.

The Global Rainbow is basically a bunch of lasers of the colours f the rainbow. Sounds a bit boring when you say it like that but it looks quite cool up close - especially when you're under it. I think it's meant to represent peace and unity or something and it's one of the 'art' things on the build up to the Olympics.

And believe me, nobody is more gutted then me I didn't get the camera out. I'm sure with the hundreds of togs taking pics of the rainbow at the time there'll be at least 1 decent one out there! You couldn't move for tripods and without standing in someone else's shot.

Ha, yeah I was one of em, and I somehow managed to miss even seeing it let alone shooting it! I didn't know anything about it till a couple of togs next to me started talking about it. Gutted :(

lol I too cant believe none of us managed to get a picture, thats so funny!

For all those who missed the Meteor:

Just watched the BBC News and it didn't even get a mention.

I'll start to worry only when there's a giant geranium doing the weather forecast.

In fact I nearly paniced earlier when there was a big flower doing the Welsh forecast but it was only Derek Brockway. :D

i watched some footage taken on a phone or video ,that had the tree / skyline in it ,so it gave a reference point for the speed of the meteor ,and it seemed to be going very slow ,im just wondering what speed the slowest meteor's come in at because this was like aircraft speed
a slow meteor like the capricornids comes in at about 15 mps ( about 54 000 mph ? )
just seemed too slow to me

Surely if it was going slow there would be no burning hence you wouldn't see it, it must have been going faster, either that or it wasn't a meteor. It wasnt mentioned on last nights BBC news either, cue conspiracy theories. :D

slow is a relative thing, it was probably 20 miles high going at a fair clip, we are used to planes flying at a max of 8 miles.
