Hello All!

I Have purchased and hold in my hands a Sigma 50-500mm Four Thirds Fit,
I Also have the Panasonic MA1 Adapter (Four thirds to micro four thirds) which Keeps AF, Exposure etc.. + a Panasonic GH1

My adapter finally arrived this morning and was eager to test it out.
I Put on the adapter and the lens, but then got a warning sign, which says.

"SWITCH TO MF"

My Camera is unable to use AF despite have the four thirds mount.
I Have updated the latest GH1 Body firmware,
But i cannot find any firmware updates i would need to the adapter mount or lens.

Can you help me?

Side Note: The BIGMA Weighs a Ton! especially with the GH1 Body!

Much Appreictaed!

Alex

I Have put the Lens into Manual Focus, but i have to use the focus ring to focus on the Lens.

I Don't think the GH1 Body has a in-built AF. (not that i know of) Since it's a Micro Four Thirds.

Most likely it's the reverse engineer syndrome? Sigma has to reverse engineer their lenses, so with newer bodies and technologies, their lenses sometimes have problems.

I'd contact sigma about it, they usually offer re-chipping the lens to solve the problem.

I Bought the Lens Used from B&H store online (Which is based in NYC, USA)
Would they still cover it?

Doubt they'd re-chip it for free out of warranty, but it's worth asking I suppose, especially since (if it is the reverse engineered problem, not just a faulty lens or adapter) it's a retrospective design flaw rather than just a fault.

Could still be a faulty adapter, or just that the lens' focus motor is faulty. Have you got any other 4/3 lenses to try with the adapter?

I'm afraid that your lack of AF problems will not be solvable.

The Panasonic m/4/3 to 4/3 adapter, and the camera you are using only allow AF on 4/3 lenses that are contrast AF enabled on 4/3 cameras. That is limited to any Panasonic 4/3 lens (14-50 f3.5-5.6, 14-50 f2.8-3.5, 14-150 and 25 f1.4), most Olympus 4/3 standard grade lenses (14-42 f3.5-5.6, 40-150 f4-5.6, 9-18 f4-5.6, 25mm f2.8 and 35mm f3.5 macro) and the 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 mkII.

Sigma lenses do not support contrast AF on Four Thirds DSLRs, so will not AF when used with the adapter on a Panasonic m4/3 camera.

I'm afraid that you are manual focus only. Blame Panasonic, they are the ones restricting the lens to manual focus only, It's not Sigma's fault.

Thanks for the update...
I think i'll just go cry and kick myself in the butt for buying the wrong camera :bang:

Panasonic, Are just making very frustrated at this point, in lack of lenses that i can actually use with the GH1.

I'm a wildlife photographer. and this is very annoying news.. as it means i might have to send the sigma back. or sell it..

Why didn't i go for a Nikon or Canon!! :bang::bang::bang:
