Getty

Just wanting to know if anyone else on here, that has a Flickr account, has been approached by Getty to sign up with them for use
/sale of their images..any feedback, positves or negatives

Thanks
Bill

Loads of threads about selling on Getty already. Have a search.

Yes, I got signed up a while back, maybe a year and a bit.

I've sold several images, although Ive only got 20 images actually in the system.
Biggest sale was about $250, although you only see a tiny part of that. Sold another last week for $150 too.

How much do you actually see from those sales then Tom?

I was asked about a year ago with maybe 20 images selected by them, but never got around to signing up, due to all the model release stuff you had to print sign and upload.

You get 20%, so a pittance really. My view is I wouldn't have gotten anything for them otherwise, so even 20% is better than nothing.
I know "pros" hold a different view, but I'm not a pro, so I'll take what I can get.

A few flickr folk have abandoned getty lately and some have joined other agencies, not many have had success being accepted by stocksy from what I've seen..

there have been grumbles for ages about images selling for little money to partner portals in china, Poland, Russia etc.. the contributor getting around $1-2 from these sales.. the straw that broke the camels back for many was the recent google drive deal were we got $12 for our photos on there which many thought was a 'buy out' as they can be reused many times.. exif details had been stripped.. that has been resolved and tighter controls meant to be in place in how these images can be used but it remains to be seen how it will pan out..

I have quite a few images with them.. dont sell via other stock agencies so will stay put for now... had a nice month last time as got payment for a RM image that was used on a book cover, 30% for RM sales.. i'll take it as would only be sat on my flickr page and hard drive making nothing otherwise..

If your invite allows you access to the getty forums on flickr its worth having a read of the threads on there to see if that helps to make your mind up one way or the other :)

Actually most pro's would take a balanced view on this. There is a religious belief about whether you should sell rights managed or rights free but otherwise for many it is a question of long term turnover.

Because if you are selling your images rights managed, and getting 20% from Getty vs say 50% from Alamy but your Getty images sell either more often or for more $ than with the same licence at Alamy then you would be crazy to defend the higher %-age agency just on that arbitrary number alone.

Pro stock photographers are looking for a regular monthly income just like everyone else. If 20% from Getty delivers that, and hopefully growth as your collection grows (rather than the decline seen in many agencies despite additional images) then whilst I'm sure they would love 50% of the sale - it is what is currently on offer.
