Wow, I haven't been on here for 3 years, and my photography has taken a back seat for the last year or so, but now I'm getting the buzz again.

I currently have a 430ex ii, and I'm considering getting a 580exii, I'm wondering how much difference there is between them, and how much I will notice the results.

I have a home/studio lighting setup (kit which was about £500 when new) which I'm thinking of selling and just go with multiple flash and remote triggers as it's much more portable and I don't have batteries for the studio lamps.

Is it worth upgrading to the 580exii in this situation, or keep what I have and maybe get some batteries for my studio lamps??

Thanks,

580 has nearly double the power of the 430, plus it can act as a master controller to remote guns. You'll most likely be needing that, though there are better ways of doing it nowadays, eg with Yongnuo 622 radio triggers.

Edit: for flash away from the mains, the options are: hot-shoe guns (might struggle for power); a battery pack for your studio heads (big, heavy, expensive); or location lights (not so heavy, but at least as expensive).
