Getting my head around Capture one

Right, I've never used Lightroom I've always just used windows to upload images to my pc which they subfolder into dates on my secondary hard drive then I would just edit images with camera raw and photoshop and output to the same folder. My question is when importing images to capture one will the images stay where they are on my secondary folder or will they be moved to a capture one folder on my primary hard drive i wouldn't have the space? Ideally, i would like all the images and output images to stay on the secondary hard drive and just have the software running from the primary hard drive.
