I have a Sigma 17-70 f/2.8 - 4.5 DC on a Sony fit. I love the lens and it has a decent 1:2.3 magnification, but i'd like to make it higher.

Is there any kind of magnifiying glass that I could use on the filter threads that will allow a more 1:1 or higher. It already allows focus upto about 20mm, almost touching the lens but would like to get a higher magnification.

I know I can purchase a "real" macro lens like the Sigma 105 etc, but it's a bit to shell out when my current lens is "almost" there.

Thanks

Carl

You can get close up filters in various strengths.
Just don't expect the same image quality as you'd get with a prime macro lens.

If you google close up filters you'll probably get on the right track.
I have seen ads in mags for them, but don't recall what company.

How about extension tubes?

I have used a so called close up filter (they aren't filters but I think get called that because they screw onto the filter thread)

I was pleased with the results, but I was using a high quality close up lens (canon 500D) on a canon L lens. (70-200 f4 L)

I think the risk is that they introduce problems and magnify those already there.

Edit: The Raynox seem to be excellent, I don't have one but I've seen superb results

Thanks, i've had a look around the forums (should have used search! :)) and the +5 diopter filter seems to be able to offer me nearly the 1:1 i'm looking for @70mm.

Only real way of knowing is getting one I guess. I know it not beat a real macro prime but as I said, I really like my current Sigma lens, and it's almost there (1:2.3) but thats at like 10/20mm from the subject.

Not considered extension tubes, but will have a look around.

Thanks for input..
