Hi I have just registered on here and I am looking for some advice on a camera.

In the past I have had a Nikon d5000 when they first came out and then later a d7000.

I was quite pleased with the results I got with the d5000 but found the dogging in the menus a bit of a chore to change basic settings.

I didn't have the d7000 for long but enjoyed having the info screen on top and being able to change settings on the fly more quickly and it had a pretty decent AF system and frame speed. Circumstances and working away from home forced the sale of the d7000.

my budget is around 350-400 for that money I can get a new d3400 , eos 1300d (with 18-55 and I think 55-300mm kit lenses) at a push a used d7000 with kit lens , seen a eos 50d for 230 used with 5000 shutter count and years warranty also been considering a d300 used , The eos 50d appealed to me for price and spec even though its an older camera has anyone got one of these and just wondered what it was like with standard budget lenses.
Have seen the eos 200d on toby deals with kit lens new for just over 400, Have always had Nikon but was curious about canon and like the better looking button functions especially on lower end models.
Also looked at the pentax range the k-50 but weren't sure on reliability as seen a lot of posts with issues in regards to motor ?

I shoot mainly landscapes and some wildlife at local lakes fairly close up and some local footie matches , some street photography.

using a lumix fz38 at moment which is a fairly good camara for some things. I would like to do my own printing but nothing to big a size possibly up to 10x8.

I am not that technically minded with phography I get by with the basic settings in A and S modes its just a hobby for de-stressing from work and studying for a degree. I like to think I have an eye for a good shot and composition and was really pleased when vi captured a cable surfer doing a somersault in the air and it got lead photo on sky news photo page for a week lol. it was more luck than judgement but great fun.

Anyway any advice woul be great apologies for any typos as writing this on the way to uni on the bus on my laptop !

MPB have 50D’s from £114 with 6 month warranty on them, but you’re used to Nikon so I’d probably side that way if I were you.

I tried a D750 not long ago, but being so used to Canon, I just couldn’t get on with it and went back to Canon after only a few months.

I’m not clued up with the lower spec Nikon’s at all however, so can’t comment there, but I’d consider MPB and Wex for picking up a used DLSR and lens...possibly eBay and on here too, though these would normally not give you warranty coverage.

I would say, with the new models that have been released lately (d850, 5div,6dii etc) that the used market is the place to buy. There seems to be some good camera's at some bargain prices. Being a Canon user I think a 50d or 60d would suit your needs but the Nikon d700 looks to be a great ff camera for relatively little money.

Its been a while since I had a Nikon and cant even remember the button layout , I tried a Nikon d3400 in local store and it seems a little better in so much that you press the info button and the main settings of iso , white balance , metering etc are displayed in a line for easy adjustment so it does seem a little better. I will have a look at the eos d50s not sure what the eos 200d is like.

Ive got a d3300,button layout is same on d3400,ive had the d7200 and for me the d3300 is not a problem but YMMV(y)
