Today I received a cell phone text apparently from the GOV-UK about a tax refund, it reads as follows :-

GOV-UK: Your tax refund is ready to claim now. Your reference no. is *****, to claim this please fill out the form via : mytax-rebate-form.com

Just wondered if this is genuine or a scam and if anyone else has received a similar message ? As of yet I've not clicked on anything as I know nothing about a tax refund due to me.

Just report it and block them. That wont stop more coming but may make you feel good when doing it :D

Scam, that's not how tax rebates are done.

Many thanks for that Marc, very much appreciated.

The URL should be the alarm bell, anything from HMRC would be from a .gov.uk web address. Report it (forward it) to HMRC, delete it and block the senders email address would be my advice

Totally a scam. I normally get tax refund almost every year and its always through the post. I have never received a text about it.
You can now claim your refund online but as mentioned above all HMRC webpages have ".gov.uk" address. And normally the letter gives you the steps to make your claim online, not text message or email.

Many thanks for that Jim, very much appreciate I'll do as yo all suggest.

That’s bad I had a e.mail today from a young lady requesting dinner for two ,with a nice scantily clad photo of herself .i showed the wife she said go for it .
Result they don’t cook the steak properly

For reference I think the inland revenue will only ever ask you to log into your government gateway to deal with any tax issues, not some commercial looking site.

Texts concerning the £400 energy refund have starting appearing, before folks, I’ve blocked 3 senders today.
