Hi! I’m a newbie to the site, so hello all.
Umm, I guess I joint the site to talk to some like minded people. I’m now going into my second year of a photography degree.
Unlike my fellow students I have no previous experience in higher education, I taught myself and got in on the back of my portfolio. All I’ve ever wanted to do is photography. Looking back over my work in the last 2 years I can see that my work has dramatically improved, I guess what I’m wondering is, is there big learning curve with photography? I see my work improve, but I’ve still not taken photos that I am really proud of. I’m so passionate about photography, and I want to be at the top. I’m prepared to work hard, and put in everything I can, but if my work isn't amazing now, will it ever be? Has anyone else felt like this in the past?
Sorry to go on! Any response would be amazing! :)

LOL. Some of the best photographers have said they've never taken a shot they've been entirely happy with. ;)

That's the thing with photography, in some respects you're striving for the unattainable, which is no bad thing. Stay motivated, look at the work of others for inspiration while trying to find you own style. Never ever lose the enthusiasm and the enjoyment which is the main thing in the end.

If
1. All you've ever wanted to do is photography
2. You taught yourself
3. You were accepted into a degree course based on your portfolio
4. And you are prepared to work hard and put in everything you can

Then my friend, you probably have the respect of a lot of people here and you certainly have the qualities to succeed.

Show us some of your work.

Oh, and welcome to TP

Thank you CT and chuckurrbarla! I see your points completely, and in regard to not loosing my enthusiam, i dont think that is even possible! When I look at other photgraphers work, I get stressed and agitated beacuse i dont see the quality of their work in my own... Ill show you some of my work...( but how?!)

Never lose faith in yourself, the fact that you've taught yourself and managed to get into degree course alone shows that you are doing something right. I think everyone goes through periods of looking at everyone else's work and feeling like your own isn't up to scratch. But that doesn't mean what your doing is bad at all. I don't think any photographer is always 100% happy with with the outcome of a photograph anyway, there's always many ways you can make it better or more effective. Don't give up :) I'll take a look at your work when its up mate.

Can i just give you all a link to my Flickr account? In not sure how it works!? Do you need my username? anyway its "antsaliva" If you wouldn't mind checking some of my shots out and see what you think - would be massivly appritiated! cheers guys

I've thought about getting a holga, and seeing your shots, just makes me want to get one even more. I particulaly like no1 of the set. What film did you have in?

I much prefer the second set, but thats personal preference. It's all good work and I'm sure you'll do well:thumbs:

I think 3 and 5 of the first set are my favourites but there's something to said for all of them.

Well done Barry.
