Hi all

I wanted to get some gels so that i can modify flash colour when under artificial light.

Do you have any recommendations? I hear cheap ones can melt/become deformed easily. Do I also need some form of bracket to hold them?

All advice gratefully received.

Cheers

Bruce

ps want to use on Nikon SB800

This was on an old thread ..... Roscolux make the filters Mecworks mentioned and have a free swatch set of all their colours AND they fit an SB 800 :-)

Contact them and see if they still do this and also ask about mountings.

Hope this helps

Great feedback Alexam. Looking at the Strobist Filter Collection, could be just what I need. Would you recommend a gel holder to pair with them or fit under the wide-flash adapter (I think this would melt the filters though)?

Cheers

Bruce

Try get hold of a Roscolux or Lee swatch book for free.

The gell are the right size for a speedlite, just add a bit of tape to each end and hold them on the speedlite with an elastic band, leaving a small gap between gel and flash head so as not to melt the gel.

You don't need anything fancy or expensixe to hold them on.

Some body was selling some on here recently and I saw what I thought was an excelent tip. On the tape at the end of each gel write on what he gel is, as a 1/4 cto looks like a 1/4 cto most of the time .

OH I forgot to say that on Amature Photographers advent calender you can get a free gel sample pack ( it was one of the early one may 4 or 5) mines not come yet :(

Could try kam they sent me a bumper pack of cinematic gels large size too!

Unfortunately, the Rosco ones stopped being given away free once the Strobist movement gathered momentum. I bought some the other day for a tenner or so but haven't used them yet. There are quite a few threads on the strobist flickr group about holders - there seems to be some commercially available ones but I'm going to follow the DIY route using a press pass holder and some velcro.
