Hey everyone.

I did a shoot in london at the weekend and was using my speedlights under the good old sodium vapour street lamps with thier horrible yellow colour.

Would putting a full CTO gel on each flashgun bring the white balance of the flash a lot closer to the white balance of the street lights?

I don't expect it to be perfect but to get closer would be ideal.

Thanks.

It would bring it closer but I doubt it would be spot on. You would probably need multiple cto's on each gun as those lights are very orange. If possible just covert to B&W problem solved then.

Even a little closer would still help alot I think. I don't have an example with me. How much light does a CTO stop going through it. I mean if I put 3 CTO gel's over the flash would that be a stop of light, or more or less?

The photoshoot was for a car so B&W wouldn't of been a solution as it wouldn't go with the rest of the set.

Sorry mate, I have not got the foggiest! I could test it but that would mean getting off my harris and setting my gear up... Do you have a light meter and some gel's???

Ah thats ok, was just wondering. I have some gel's (although never used them) but I don't have a light meter. I'll do some test shots tonight.

Thanks for your help
