Do you take the serial numbers, mark with UV pen, photograph each item, ............?
 
yep I do and all registered with the insurance etc I also breed Presa canaries which helps lmao in all seriousness I keep all the online receipts photo all my items etc just too be safe was always taught that you do this each to there own though
 
I have all my serial numbers listed and insured. One thing I do is keep lenses/cameras in one place and bags in another place. I never keep the stuff in the backpack as otherwise you have packed it conveniently for someone to just pick it up with very little effort.
 
Camera has a few random bits of gaffer tape on it and the white logo coloured in. Generic black strap, no red stripes on show.

Insured for all the locations I'm likely to be in.

It's either on me or in the house.
Mine is also insured in and away from the house for whatever.
 
I'm 6'3" and 95kgs and look pretty sketchy. Ha!
 
All equipment insured, so I won't be fighting anyone for it should be the worse happen. Although if I did, I've usually got my big manfrotto monopod with me!
 
Van vault in the van that takes all my gear. Steering lock. If they want it badly enough they'll get it. You're just trying to make them choose another vehicle.
 
I keep all serial numbers listed (of all assets worth a bit to me), all receipts are scanned and kept as well, and for all such items I keep the boxes as well. Not had an issue with insurance at all, and they were impressed with how quickly I was able to produce the material and evidence of ownership.

No other security really, well not besides the alarm system, cctv and stored in a locked cabinet with a finger print reader locked door after I was burgled and cleaned out.
 
First rule of security. Don't discuss what security you have or haven't in place on a public forum!!
 
What? Not even the WW II hand grenade I keep in my bag (pin pulled) so if someone makes off with it, they get 15 seconds away before they get judged (and executed!) by it? It's a b****r when I forget it though, have to buy new kit!!!
 
I keep all my gear in the cellar, at the bottom of a locked filling cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the leopard'.
 
I photo graphed it all, including serial numbers and put it on flickr, private obviosuly.

sounds like a good plan ... lets hope it doesnt get destroyed by a vogon destructor fleet..
 
Damn, I am a little relaxed in my security I guess, all left in camera bags or the rolling case under the stairs or in the boot of the car. I only ever think about it when I am out and about, at weddings the rolling case is lockable and can be locked on to a fixed object so I use that some times

It's a b****r having to recruit new staff though when they go to get stock out.

So when you say every lens has a clean before rental... :D

I have all my serial numbers registered with canon and a couple of other places.
 
Plenty to think about there. I'm still in Christmas mode when it comes to my new camera and gear. Gonna start planning my insurance update and receipt security too.
 
Burglars and criminals generally make the decision to enter a premises based on likelihood of available cash or goods, whether anyone is there and if you have security such as an alarm and cctv. Have an alarm, make sure it looks to be maintained and working, have cctv if you can, have insurance and lock equipment away in steel cabinets etc. Some premises are still burgled with alarms, but in general burglars feel time limited and steel cabinets can take too long to open if an alarm is already activated. Backup off site. Generalised advice, but many criminals choose easier targets if they can, determined criminals are rarely stopped. Cars can be difficult to protect once it's know gear is in there, but most are broken into because valuable items or the likelihood of them is already visible.

I use a fantastic website called lenstag where it saves all of my serial numbers for my equipment. It's free and easy to use

Yup - I have a paid membership for this. Flags up locations where my cameras pictures appear as well so could help identify where the camera is after its stolen. Helpfully gives you a new and used valuation for the equipment too.
