Gear insurance

I use Infocus Insurance. Which is best for you depends on what your circumstances are. The harder to quantify part is how good whoever you get are at paying out!

+1 on this. I have my camera gear on my home insurance. Some of the more expensive items need to be listed separately. I had my entire camera bag stolen in Barcelona last year. I had the camera in my hand but well over £1k worth of gear plus all our cash and passports (:bang:) were lost. The house insurance paid up in full, quickly and with no questions. I did need my receipts though so keep hold of them.

Oh, and don't keep everything valuable in your camera bag ('cos its bound to be safest there') and then leave it with someone else while you wander off taking pictures...

Photoguard

Home ins doesnt cover in car boot and liability. Also if you do need to make a claim, your home ins will go up. Even holiday ins wanted home ins to assist when I made a claim a few years ago.

I have photoguard doing a claim for me know due to camera and lens jumping out of bag (lens hit the concrete).
Seem to be pretty good.

I've just insured just over £8K worth with Photoguard and it was £229 for a years cover. My home insurance would of increased over £150 and would of been covered up to £5K only while out with it or in a car.

£173 for £8K in June with Infocus....

I have M&S Premier home insurance and it covers all of mine and my wife's kit when we're out and about. We pay around £250 for buildings, contents and the away from home element.
