It's belatedly occurred to me to list my camera's / lenses just in case I ever need to claim.

It's all second hand stuff totalling about £2k and I've checked there is nothing that needs to be declared seperately
on the house insurance.

So three questions:
.
- Generally how picky are insurers on this type of claim? I've got all the boxes but very few receipts.

- Two of the lenses do not seem to have serial numbers (Canon 100mm macro, old Nikon 50mm f/1.4).
Am I looking in the right places?

- Is it worth doing anything extra - like photo's?

Cheers
Steve

I have sent you a PM and who I am with. Absolutely no problem didn't even want any proof via receipts . Had to pay the first £100 access. Don't think we are allowed to mention companies on here hence the PM. i have even extended the insurance cover on my Nikon D810 but I did give the serial number and that is all they wanted plus how much to cover for

Check your" In " box

This is what happened to my Nikon D800 camera when I dropped it

bent top case- broke glass- broke display unit and repaires said knocked focus out of alignment. They arfe also going to give it a complete overhaul and clean

I was thinking more about fire / theft with the whole lot gone.

I expect it varies depending on the company and even on the person dealing with the claim. The more evidence you have the better, so pictures, serial nos and whatever receipts you have.

My concern with covering camera equipment under house insurance is the impact on premiums if you make a claim.

I agree with serial numbers and photos of equipment including the boxes. I put the boxes in the loft for safe keeping and keep a copy off site.
When I made my claim for a Canon 24-105mm F4 L lens I didn’t see an increase in my premiums and had a replacement within 48 hours.

I'm not in the office today so I can't grab one of the shelf to check, but I'm pretty sure the serial number of the Canon 100mm macro is on the back of the mount.

The easiest place the find Nikon serial number is on the box.

It's always a good idea to take photos of things for insurance purposes. A 10-year-old receipt proves that you owned something 10 years ago, but a photo taken today proves that you own it today.

Indeed it was in tiny black on black letters. Thanks Stewart,

The Nikon turned out to be cunningly hidden under the lens cap - D'OH.

One of these days I am going to learn how to do that quote thing.
