Yes
Just wondering if anybody has done GCSE Photography and if so, can they give me an idea of the syllabus?

The reason I ask is that its one of the photography related courses the local college is running as an evening class, which I'm considering doing...

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Matt,

Thanks for that, it sounds very interesting indeed...I've just found out that theres an open day to discuss enrollment on Thursday so i think I'll wonder down and have a chat with somebody...

Regards,

Pete

I did it! In 1988 though ;)

Enjoyed it, non of this digital malarky.
Had a Praktika somat or other and a couple of lenses.
Shot mainly IS0 400 B&W film then developed it yourself.

Got me into photography in a big way then. :)

I did an OCN course in 2002, everyone on it enjoyed the course but as I said in another thread, I get claustrophobic in the darkroom! I found it very useful though, helped me understand the channel mixer in PS too!
Its all good fun...makes you think about your photography too! I was useless at wet photography but still passed!

I'm starting an AS level course in Photography on Friday, no idea what it involves like but i shall see :D

I hope this doesn't cause me to be struck by a big bolt of lightening, but I am hoping that it doesn't involve too much (any!) wet photography!

I am sure that will cause a sharp in take of breath by the purists, but its simply not a skill I will ever need. I dabbled in developing B&W prints when I was in school (long long time ago) and that was enough for me...

What I am really looking for is training in composition, studio lighting, flash ect..If there stuff on Photoshop, that would be a bonus, but its the basic's i am after...

Pete

Hope you've got your rubber boots on! :D

The ultimate first digital camera would be one with an aperture dial on the lens, the shutter speeds on a separate knob, and an ISO dial.....end of. I don't see it happening though somehow. ;)

Me too! Well 'O' level. Did mine in 1985. We had Prakticas too :D

I don't think there's that many schools that do photography, so I'd go for it. Plus we were allowed to bunk off P.E. if we were taking a photography 'O' level :D

I'm starting this course next week (Tues) too, although I'm doing it as evening class. At least I'll now have someone to compare notes with :D

LOL. Its was good fun.

We had two darkrooms and one of the lads used to smuggle cans of beer in so when the red light went on no one would enter and we'd be safe to drink. :D
The developer etc covered the smell well too ;)

I've been told that my course is all film based - I can see this getting expensive as I don't actually own a film camera anymore

just buy a modern SLR that uses your lenses - if your using Canon you can get some of the rebels for ~£50 on ebay, and if your using Nikon/Other then I'm sure they make some sort of film camera...

Praktica BC-1 for me..link

Started doing GCSE photography but the school canned it due to a lack of interest/funds.

Mine wasnt on that site but was something like this one

Mine got stolen years later so I bought a Minolta Dynax 7000i which I still have. Great camera.
