Hi just thought I would ask if anyone else on here has received an email from a mobile phone company in Alaska called GCI, they sent me one on Jan 1st saying
I have gone over a usage allowance and give links to upgrade, I returned an email asking to delete me from there records and it has been bounced back. So with out attempting
to ring them which I don't want to considering it's in Alaska, any suggestions on what to do please.

Carl

Sounds like a phishing email or a virus/trojan distribution.. clicking any links in the email or opening *any* attachments accompanying it could compromise your computer and personal data.

I ignore and delete several every day.

Ok cheers Alastair thats what I have been doing will just put it as spam then Cheers (y)

Do nothing. However, as you have replied to the original email you might get others as there is a chance that someone, somewhere, now knows your email address is 'live'.

All the emails like this that I receive get deleted without even being opened.

When it comes to this kind of thing, as the ol' saying goes; if in doubt, have it out.

If it bounced (genuinely) then I wouldn't worry about that.

I imagine it was relying on getting visits to a certain webpage.

Xls files pretending to be invoices appear to be popular at the moment.

A general rule of email is that anything unsolicited and that you should not receive will be malign, especially if it has links or attachments. There's a lot of spoofing going on too, so even though because an email purports to come from someone apparently legitimate, one should still treat it as suspicious especially if it's claiming anything odd (like a company in Alaska trying to charge you for mobile phone usage).

Generally if you hover the cursor over a link in an email the email software will show you where the link REALLY goes, rather than where it *says* it goes.

And word docs & PDFs - we get lots of those.

Are you quite recent to the internet?

Thanks for your comments and advice.
I have been on the internet for many years now so not new to it. The reason I was concerned about it was that
I have just found out about someone with the same name as me he has a fb page so decided to check it out.
But will see how it goes now.
Regards Carl.
