Gary Fong lightspheres

Don't know if this helps, not got the lightsphere but do use the whaletail on a regular basis and it's quite simply the best bit of kit I have bought in a long while. Bought it about a year ago and I would recommend this to anybody. The tutorial DVD that came with it is clear, concise and informative and a comparison between raw flash and the whaletail convinces you that this is an impressive, but albeit expensive piece of kit. The harshness of raw flash is removed completely and its flexibility is its real strength. Now I realise this may not have answered your question, but if the lightsphere is as good as the whaletail then I doubt if you would be disappointed.

Thanks for the reply, I will probably get the whaletail

you can mimic the effects of the Lighsphere with the bouce card! made out of Hobby foam at 99p for a sheet which you can make no less that 4 out of.. just look up the better bounce card in You Tube.. works very well..

I have the lightsphere cloud and like it. It gives a good 'all round' warm light. When I first used it I didnt believe how much light it gave to the room until I let the DJ use my camera to show me.
I used it in a country hall that had very high ceilings and bouncing would have been difficult.
I'm sure there are other bits of kit you can use, but it worked for me.
It also got people talking and asking about my gear, which was a good ice breaker to get shots of them.
Does look weird though!

Same here, I have one for each of my flashes, wouldn't be without them now :)

if you are think of getting a Gary Fong lightspheres try kerso you'll probably get it cheaper, I have one and it's a great bit of kit

Looks like an interesting piece of kit, one wee question about the cloud vs the clear types. Would I be right in assuming the difference is that the cloud version diffuses the flash a lot more ?

It's an excellent piece of kit, never fails me.
I've got the cloud & clear lightsphere 2 with the cloud dome & the chrome dome insert(for outdoors:thumbs:).

I'm not sure if mine Gary Fong but i got them from Microglobe and they're damn good. I also bought a Whale Tail with gel diffusers, costs much less than Gary Fong's!

I have the lightspere,
Pro's, it gives lovely soft lighting for portraitsetc.
Con's it's expensive for what it is, and I find they tend to fall off the flash when carried.

I've just ordered a clear one from them It will be interesting to see how the two compare for quality.
Thanks for the link.

Well it arrived today. Its identical to the Gary Fong one I've got. I can't tell the difference. Same quality.
Great value compared to what I paid for the Gary Fong one.
