Hello,

I have looked up when the next full moon will be and it says the 14 Aug.

I was wanting to take some pics of it and also try to get some star trails, but I am unsure how to go about this... can anyone help as I have never done this before :)

There was a thread about this recently so maybe have a search.

FWIW, moon shots tend to look better when it's not full as you get good shadows which gives it texture, as opposed to just being a big bright blob.

Thank you, I will do a search :)

When would you recomend?

Thanks for the tutorials :)

I just found that thread and it looks like my 55-200mm lens aint good enough :(

Sure, it's a little short for full frame shots of the moon, you just need to get creative by having a little landscape in there too.

Also remember if you expose for the moon, you won't see the stars, if you expose for star trails the moon will be blown to hell!

Star trails tend to work best on moonless nights from my limited experience.

I managed to get a usable picture of the moon from my 15-85mm, had to crop the hell out of it but it still had reasonable detail, although my 100-400mm's a lot better ;)

I'm sure you'll be able to get some half decent shots at 200mm :)

I want to give it a go too. If you'd like to meet up sometime, I can let you try the 50-300mm lens I've got arriving soon. Still not great, but should be a little better.

I'd deffo be up for this :D :D

Took a picture of a full moon the other night... The Mrs gave me a right thick ear and made me delete it straight away. :naughty:
