Hi,

I've read and seen several posts on here with regards to this camera being ideal for portrait work(which I my main angle in photography-I'm not into landscape etc) I currently own a 450D with the kit 18-55 lens as well as the Nifty-Fifty lens, however I'm very interested in this camera after seeing that it performs admirably in the dynamic range over several of the big guns. A few things that do concern me is the compatibility with software-namely lightroom 2 and iphoto/aperture....do any owners suffer with RAW/JPEG reading issues with the above mentioned software? Is that right that shooting in RAW with the Fuji results in large 25MB + files??

I know that the S5 is based on the Nikon D200, so lenses and whatnot are easy to obtain...what about things like batteries as I've read that the Fuji uses it's own type of battery which is different to the D200's. Also how is the firmware inside the camera to use..clunky menu's etc??

Sorry I know there is a multitude of questions within this post, I'd ideally like to try one out before going any further...trouble is I don't know of anyone near to me(Kent) that has one that I could have a look at.

Michael.

I haven't used it with LR2, but the .RAF ffiles don't pose any problems to LR1.3-4. The file sizes are, as you say, huge, especially if you have the DR set at 400%, they also take an age to write to the card.

The batteries are different, but I picked up an aftermarket one from Ebay for around a tenner and it works fine, you can of course, add the MB-D200 grip and use AA batteries in that too.

The menu system (for me at least) isn't as intuitive as that on the Nikon, but it's nowhere near as bad as people make out, it's just different from Nikon one, which can be a pita if you're jumping from, say, a D200/300 to the Fuji and back all the time. If it will be a sole camera then I doubt you'd find anything wrong with it.

For the money it's selling for now it's a total bargain, in fact I'm considering buying a second one to get converted for IR use

I use the S5 and find it produces excellent portrait work, i bought some batteries at a fiver and they are great - as good as the original - will post a link later when i get to my home pc.

LR2 works fine with the raw files as does cs4
